Default Transmission noise on Deceleration

Many WRX owners have complained of hearing a grinding noise in the transmission on deceleration in certain gears. My local Subaru dealership informed me that a high-level Subaru rep. would be in town specifically to troubleshoot this complaint and wanted to use my car as a "test" subject. What they ended up doing was replacing the clutch disc, pressure plate, flywheel and bolts. I just picked the car up today, and so far so good... no longer has the noise. The clutch parts they put in were somewhat redesigned, so this may be worth mentioning to your service dept.

Thats pretty good to know. I'm having my flywheel and clutch replaced with aftermarket parts this monday.

I hate that noise. It drives me nuts. Makes it sound like my rex is gonna come apart on me.

HMMMMM, I get that in my RS decelerating in 3rd and 2nd gears, guess I should take it to the dealer.

Question

Hmm,
What do you think the chances are that SOA is going to replace these parts on all of the WRX's they've sold so far is?
Right, wrong or otherwise, I don't think any company would step up to the plate on an order that big unless it was a serious safety issue...
Hopefully I'm wrong - new clutch would be cool

Default Been there.

I had that same sound in my WRX Wagon for the first few months...it sounded similar to something I had heard in my dad's old legacy turbo. It went away after a few thousand miles. I'm at 14000 now and she sounds great (except for some creaking from the cracked windshield...doh!)

Thanks for letting us know. I had my car at the dealer on Monday. They claimed that they think they know what it is, but wouldn't tell me until they verified it and talked to Subaru Tech. Still waiting for them to call me back almost 4 days later...

Everybody please keep your updates coming! I hate the noise, too, it sounds like things might come unglued any moment.
