Default Flashing CEL?

Stage 2 setup

In 3rd and 4th gear, a hard pull from 2700 rpms causes the CEL to flash at about 4000 rpms, which is where I ease off the throttle. I hit about 14-15 psi every time. I had to turn the ABC about 3 times to get 13 psi and 3.5 more times to hit 14-15 psi. With 3 turns @ 13psi, the car stumbled til 3700 rpms. With 6.5 turns @ 14-15psi, it drives great and pulls hard from 26-2700 rpms! I haven't had the CEL pulled yet.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

It's pretty quick, three flashes, two seconds total. I just had them read, P0037 twice and P0171 once. He said both codes together meant the rear O2 was definately bad. I had the 171 code right after installing TBE.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=905185

Should I replace the O2 sensor or get a CEL fix?

Does the CEL just flash or does it stay on? Flashing is knock, staying on is your ECU reporting an issue with your car. They're two different things - have you been able to recreate it while logging?

I'm pretty sure now that it's flashing just twice. I would get the CEL for the P0171 just hours after having it reset, and it comes with near WOT acelleration. After that, it flashes.

I haven't done any logging yet, just Stage 2 base map with the ABC turned until the drivability returned (6 1/2 turns).

Did you ever install some kind of rear O2 fix? If not, you should. You should also try logging while driving and trying to recreate the CEL. If you're knocking it will be really evident in your log.

I borrowed a laptop from a friend, but I decided to try something else also. I didn't have my map selector switch hooked up so I decided to install it today and see what happens. I got it installed and turned the car on and off a few times, cranked it and went through the maps to see if the car idled differently. It didn't. I waited til night to test drive it and the CEL doesn't flash anymore. I gave it about 3/4 throttle through each gear for a 30 min drive with no problems. It pulled hard to 5k rpms where I backed off to about 1/2 throttle til 5.5-6krpms, which is where I shifted. I didn't wire the lights for the boost gauge so I couldn't see if it was still hitting 15 psi. Butt dyno was happy! I'll drive at noon tomorrow when it's hottest and see what happens.

Read your manual.

The flashing is most likely knock.

I would be careful if you are getting this alot

Changing maps will not mess with your idle. Your utec is not in contol of that on the base maps.

I think the base maps are 93 octane also. I dont think you can get that anywhere in AZ without mixing.

Borrow that laptop again and make a log. If the light flashes, see if there is any knock present in the logs.

I haven't used the laptop yet. I have to uninstall some other OS and install Windows first. I'll get to that sometime tomorrow. I just reread the manual today and realized that the flashing is likely knock.

The CEL does not flash (twice for Stage 2) when I turn the car on like the manual says so I don't know what's up with that.

Like I said, after installing the map switch and turning the car on and off, the light doesn't flash anymore. I'll wait til noon when it's hot out and see if the CEL flashes again. For reference, the CEL did flash the last couple days and nights so somehow installing the map selector switch made a difference.

What version software are you running? If its 5.0, the CEL won't flash when starting the car.

Installing the map selector will only change something if you were running on a map that wasn't happy with your car, and now you're on a map your car likes. Just plugging it in shouldn't do anything.

I realize that but I'm sure Map 2 was selected on the UTEC. To answer the other question, I did install the rear O2 fix, and I doubt the rear O2 would go bad immediately after catback. I'm just waiting for it to get hot and I'll do a couple hard pulls and post the results.

I gotta figure how to get the logs from the laptop to the desktop, but there's no knock!

Something weird, after installing map switch, my boost dropped to 12.9 psi. I just adjusted the boost to 15psi and still no knock. I'll continue to play with it and post logs soon.

What does this mean? 91 octane, 96*

Everything said don't adjust the fuel w/o wideband so I have stage 3 boost map on stage 2 fuel and timing. The car responds a lot better, with no signs of knock. I see 17.6 psi at night close to irrigation fields. Does this mean a IC spray kit would be that much more effective?

You don't have stage anything boost or stage anything fuel & timing - you're running in stock mode - why? Download the base stage 2 map & parameters from turboxs' website, and install them to one of the positions on your UTEC - say map 2. Switch to map 2, and confirm that is what you're running through the UTEC's dashboard. Adjust boost, using primarily the boost map, not primarily using the ABC. If you run across any other issues, take a log & post it up.

You're right. The selector on the UTEC was set to 0, I used a mirror to confirm. Anyway, fixed and confirmed with map sw and dashboard. I have 04 knock at 4997 rpms. Will post when thumb drive starts working again...

I have catless uppipe, tbe, high flow filter and perrin pulley.

I'm seeing knock on the stage 2 base map. Do I add fuel at those points or adjust the boost first?

Have you ever reset your ECU? At some point your car learned to pull silly amounts of timing, and hasn't unlearned this. I've never seen stock timing numbers like you posted in your log. They're insanely low. Also, for a base map, you're running too lean.

For clarification, resetting is disconnecting negative terminal of battery and pressing brakes, correct? If so, I did this. I did it again after you asked and still have same results, knock at 5krpms, 9-11 psi.

Make sure to load the stage 1-3 parameters. It's looks like your scaling numbers in open loop fueling preferences are scewed.

Parameters loaded, I had to go into the parameters to calibrate the tps.

Could my problem be that I bought it used? Maybe the previous owner changed some "constants" that my ecu doesn't agree with? This is all I can think of since I'm seeing knock on the Stg2 base map.

I'll try deleting all maps and parameters and starting over. After all, I've got nothing to lose... right?!?

Too much fuel causes misfire, correct? Can a misfire be detected as knock? I added fuel and I would get knock randomly at the same point that I added fuel.

My parameters are all good. The scaling hasn't been altered.

After playing with it and getting a better understanding, I started over with a base Stg2 map and adjusted the timing ( -2) on the whole map. The car ran like crap below 3K and still knocked at 4K and 5K, both between 60-80% Load.

I added timing below 3K (1) and pulled more timing (-1) from 4 and 5K, drove, added fuel, drove, pulled -1, drove, and added fuel. It still knocks.

Would the uppipe make that much difference on a Stg 2 map? I tried averaging the values of Stg2 and 3 but got the checksum error.

I am finally understanding the logs, but I am not sure how to correct the boost curve (taper down to 12.5). I've read the Manual and Quick Guide over and over and still learn something every time I do, but I'm still not clear on this. 2nd gear pulls are good, 3rd gear (below) still needs work. Any suggestions?

There's a bit to be said about adjusting your boost, but I think you should try and fix the problem at hand b4 you do anything else. You shouldn't be knocking where you are, but there's definate evidence of knock. What octane fuel are you using? When was the last time you did regular maintenance and such(like fuel filter, spark plugs, oil filter....)?
