Angry Don't clean rims with this!

I used Meguiar's rim cleaner and look what it did to the stock calipers!
Whatever chemical is in this product creates a hazy almost oxidized blue mess! I guess the calipers are relatively pourous and soak it up or something. Grrrrr.

I used some similar stuff to clean my rims one time and it ate the red paint off my clipers and then they looked orange. I just got a set of 4pots and painted thme red and did it again, and had orange 4 pots. Well I decided to go a different route this time instead of painting the caliper, I'm going to polish them.

Actually, Simple Green did that to mine as well. I just scrubbed them clean though, the next day. Doesn't look as bad anymore, but I'm gonna have to paint them probably.

Class, what lesson did we learn today?
If you're going to use solvents to clean the wheels, remove them from the car first.
Rotate those puppies while you're at it.

BTW I use Westley's Bleche White and it hasn't done anything like that. The wheels get shiny clean, future brake dust doesn't adhere very well (wipe it off with a dry cloth), and it turns the tires black (and cleans white if you've got it).

The stuff cleans the wheels pretty well. Just don't let it get on your calipers are paint.

Be patient!

Default Great Rim Cleaner

If anyone wants the perfect rim cleaner that will not effect paint and get rims really clean, try something called "Simple Green". I have a set of Team Dynamic Monzas (white), and my rims are harder to keep clean than anything. I tried every rim cleaner on the market and my rims would not turn white. The really nice thing about it is that it is bio-degradable and non-toxic (Safe for use on paint). Try some.

P21S. 'nuff said.

It will not harm anything. For a while BBS was giving you P21S rim cleaner when you bought some of their rims. Even Porsche authorizes it.

Works like a charm.

Just clean your rims with water and an old t-shirt. It is more work but looks great and does not do anything bad to the car...

Happened to me also, I guess I'll have to get some 4 pots. Anyway to fix the damage? Like scrape off the top layer?

I don't think your rim cleaner did that.

Mine went the same way without cleaner. Just paint the calipers, looks much better.

Default heat

I think heat plays a big part, not the cleaner. I used a similar cleaner on all 4 wheels, but only the front ones got discoloured. The rear calipers were still like new. The front brakes get a lot hotter than the rears.
