Default Insurance on cars, goes make model or by "trim level??"

I'm pretty sure it goes by trim level, like Impreza 2.5 RS, WRX, WRX STi, right??
Just want to make sure.
Also, do any of you know like what the avg difference is between the three?
TIA.

Yeah, it does. And sedan and wagon.

Funny story is that a friend of mine got an Evo the week they came out. His insurance company was like "uhh, this Lancer 'Evolution' isn't in the db. Is it the same as a Lancer ES?"

"Yeah, the same thing."

"But it cost $30k?"

"Yeah."

"OK, well we'll give you this _low_ rate then, since it's an economy car."

6 months later they figured it out

Pretty much "impreza" is a bad word to tell insurance companies. The rates will pretty much suck for anyone young driving an Impreza. My 2.5RS was only slightly more expensive to insure than my L because it was 8 years newer and worth about 4 times as much.

What's the avg difference you ask....my LGT (or the WRX was similar) runs me somewhere around $89 a month. The STi I looked at ~ $140 a month.

When my brother was car shopping last month:

WRX/Saab92x = $170/month
Outback XT = $100/month

hmm icic thanks.
wouldn't best way be, get a 2.5RS, swap all JDM STi engine and drivetrain in, DIY and save money on insurance or would that be too much of a hassle even if you do everything yourself?

Wait till you're 25 and married.

Seriously, after you turn 25 and get married your insurance or at least my insurance was never a factor in buying a car.

Just remember that after all that money, none of the new parts are covered in an accident.

If the insurance company knows about it and agrees to cover it... it can be. It really depends on your provider.

Building up a GC just isn't worth it these days.
