Default fun Edmonton area roads?

Would anyone like to divulge any fun drives around Edmonton they may know ofÖ and no I donít mean Groat road

Iím picking up my new í06 Sti from Seattle on Friday and wouldnít mind unleashing it at spots around the city. Iím interested in both fun paved and dirt/gravel roads, but since this is my first AWD Iím particularly interested in the dirt ones.

Looking forward to joining the Suby community!

Welcome, some may strongly recomend empty parking lots to start, then unleash the BEAST....IMO. There is also autocross that would really help.

I agree with the autocross thing... I've done that with my 911 in addition to track days at Race City in Calgary - can't beat it for fun. But it would be nice to just pick up and go for a quick run in the evenings or weekends when there are no events.

As for what it cost me (will cost me)... I can't say exactly until I pay the duty and taxes and what the exhange rate is that day, but all told it should come out to about $42k Canadian... at least $12,000 in savings! I think I can live with MPH, no rear seat pass-through or heated seats for that much Flight to Seattle is just over $200 direct flight on Horizon air... the gas $ driving back - ??? probably not cheap even though I'll be taking it easy for break-in

Now lets hear about some local roads!

^^^ I did this exact thing (importing an STi from Seattle) over the Victoria day long weekend. Your estimates of $42,000 is right on, as that's what it cost me. Gas cost me less than $150, since I got much better mileage than I anticipated.

xray... what time did you cross the border? U.S. customs told me I need to cross during the "vehicle export" office hours.... that means before 3:30pm. Shouldn't be a problem for me, but I wouldn't mind checking out Seattle for a bit if I could.

the roads around the research park on the south side are good after normal business hours - no traffic.

They're not roads - they are "test areas" ssssshhhhhhh!
Just be prepared to gravel rash the heck out of your car - if you go where I go that is.

I crossed at noon. I came in late afternnon the day before, picked up the car and drove to Bellevue where I stayed the night. I was travelling with my son, so we took our time leaving in the morning. I also pretty much took every other exit off the I-5 so I could "vary the engine speed", so it took me a while to get to the border.

Did you already fill out the equipment export worksheet and fax it in?

edit: noticed that you are planning to do this today. Good luck with everything. My car is still sitting in my garage waiting for the RIV to send me the paperwork so I can license it. It is killing me!

Xray... don't let that car sit in the garage. You don't need the RIV form 2 or the inspection to register your car. I got back last night from Seattle and just registered the car today - no problems. Certificate of origin and form 1 is all they needed. If you have insurance and registration you can drive it.

First impressions of the car... WOW! It's a beast. I set the rev alarm at 4000 rpm and stuck to shifts under that (for the most part). Varied my RPM's constantly on the way back for break-in. The STi is amazing at high speeds - I was over 100 MPH in 6th following an Audi A4 on the Coquihalla and it felt as stable as doing 100 KPH. The radar detector allowed for a most enjoyable drive back to e-town, even though I was careful to keep it under 4k.

I have to say, I'm a little dissapointed with the STi's brembos... maybe it's because they're not "seasoned" yet or I'm comparing it to my 911's brakes. But other than that, can't wait for 150 more miles to finish the break-in and really unlease it. TBE, springs and Accessport are on the way!

I know this is really off topic for this thread, but where can I get wheel lug locks for the Impreza here (other than dealer who's not open on the weekend)? I tried Can Tire and Auto Source but they don't stock the ones we need. I forgot to pick up a set when I got the car.

Really? My car has been sitting in the garage, and I've had to get rides from my wife in her minivan all this time? Now I have to wait for Monday to get to the AMA to register it. Damn.

Nice choice on the car, just wait until you get it broken in. If you think it is a beast under 4000rpm, wait until you can get on the boost over it.

BTW, what colour did you get?

I had to get mine from the states. I got McGard Spline drives from Wheel Discounters. I found them on Ebay. They are very nice lugs.
