Question a couple of questions

I was down at one of the local dealers here in Charlotte looking at the WRX and left with a couple of questions about the Legacy.

1.) Does the GT sit higher than the L version of the Legacy, because the Legacy L's that that they had at the dealership seem much smaller than my GT.

2.) Are the GT's particularly rare. When I was shopping for mine I only ever found one sedan in the whole state of NC (mine now )and had to test drive an automatic GT wagon (I was looking for a manual). At the dealership today they had about a dozen Legacys and Outbacks, but no GTs.

I think in the past 8 months, I have only ever seen maybe 3 2000 GTs on the road. Maybe it's just this part of the country. Everyone drives Accords around here.

I think they're rare here too. Not just the latest body style either. My 5-spd Wagon was only the third one I had seen come available in the year plus I was looking around for the right car. Glad I waited!

Speaking of 5spd GT Wagons, there's one for sale in the classified forum. It's out in CA. It caught my eye, because a 5spd wagon would be really cool, but I don't need a car now. Somebody should snatch it up. You may have to look through a couple of pages. It posted earlier yesterday, and it's probably buried on page 3 by now.

The GTs are about as rare as the old Legacy Turbos, with all of the top-end goodies and wheel/suspension packages, etc..

A 5-spd version is as rare as an MT Turbo too, too bad they didn't make any MT Touring Wagons

Yes, the GT wagon does sit slightly higher than the L. It has something to do with the suspension package, as I recall.

GTs are rare, manuals even more so. Funny thing is, the dealer I got my 5-speed GT wagon from was begging me to buy it, since NOBODY wanted a manual station wagon.

Strangely, I've seen four other GT wagons in the Chicago area. I actually parked by a black one just like mine (autobox though). There's a gray one in my neighborhood, a green one I've seen, and I saw a new one in tan last night.

Outbacks you see everywhere, though.

Utah is one of the highest per-capita Subaru states, and i can drive 10 miles and see 15-30 or more Subarus, but seeing a GT or a Turbo just doesn't happen very often.

I haven't seen another Touring Wagon in nearly a year, and that was at Ogden Subaru.

Legacys up here in MN are pretty rare no matter what the trim. Up here when I tell someone that I have a Soob they immediately think Outback. The dealer I bought my '01 from had a bunch of GT's but at the time I bought mine it was the only Dk Blue 'L" wagon in Minneapolis area.
When I was waiting for the dealer to deliver my car I talked to the parts Mgr. he looked it up on their computer system that the "L" and the GT use the same springs. They have the same part #. They have different sway bars but that would not effect the height of them. The only thing that I can think of is the 15" rims of the 'L' compared to the 16"s of the GT

Not sure about the newer GTs, but the older ones were 1/2" higher than other Legacys (6.6" vs 6.1 ground clearance). 16" wheels vs 15 or 14" were probably the reason...

It's funny - there are three GT sedans I see regularly, including my wife's, and they're all red. There's a white wagon I see sometimes, too, but oddly enough around here the GT's are more common than 2.5RS's.
