Why are you looking to sell a '98 L for a '95?

I'm actually quite interested in the car, can you give me a rundown of it's general mechanical condition and history?
Is this AWD, or FWD (did they still come FWD in '98?)?
2.2 Litre engine?

It is AWD and 2.2L.

I am looking for a 95 because of emissions here in NOVA. It is obd1 and the engine I want to swap into it is a EJ20g. So if I swap that into a 98 I would fail emissions instantly.

I am the third owner. 1st-old lady, 2nd-kid that kept it for only 2mos. Oil changed every 2500-3000mi, just had the brakes redone. I had my mechanic look over the car before I bought it and he said that it was in excellent condition.

Very.
One question: What is that bar on the front bumper?
I've actually got a friend in Alexandria that I'm gonna ask if he'll check it out for me if that's alright.

Yeah that is fine. The bar is from the old lady that owned had it hooked up to a RV. I was going to replace it when I decided what front bumper I wanted.

Isn't all of this a non-issue and addressed via the engine/exhaust/ecu swap??

Have you talked to anyone else in your region with a swap to see how they dealt with it?

Yes I have and they all said that they don't know how they are going to pass emissions. They talked about having a friend do (illegal) or register outside of Northern VA (the only way to have a OBD2 with a OBD1 engine in NOVA). I have already looked at all the ideas of making it work and it would be more of a headache every year to get it to work.

it isn't the most legal but all you really need is a title and 2 new vin plates.

think of it as bending the rules....

Yeah I agree but like I said more of a hassle than anything. Because who knows what will happen if I get caught.
