Thumbs down Question

Why in the world does Subaru not sell the Legacy B4 RSK in North America. It seems like such a wonderful vehicle, twin turbo, 260 hp, suspension by Porsche, etc, etc.

Why God, why????

Probably because the nember of vehicles they would actually sell would not cover the cost of certification.

I think that emissions is the culprit, the same reason SOA has been claiming they couldn't bring the big mama WRX over, and why the U.S. WRX has three, count 'em, THREE cats.

But I betcha if the S4 Avant does well, Subaru will be watching, wondering if there really is a market for a high-performance wagon. Saw my first S4 Avant the other day, in that yellow with anthracite wheels. Nice!

I'm also wondering, price-wise, where something cool like the Blitzen would fall, given that the V6 Outback is in the lower 30s...

I think Outback outsells Legacy but a tons, so SOA concentrate more on that market.

Besides, after so many turbo cars dropping out of north america, they have to be careful with the market. I guess they launch WRX 1st to test out the market 1st. After all, WRX is a bigger name than RSK or B4.

I agree with Jason, but thats because our society is stuck in that utilitarian SUV thinking way. THATS who SOA's mainstream marketing focuses on. Thats why you dont see ANY impreza or straight legacy ads.

After owning a legacy, I would be ALL OVER a B4 Blitzen. From the looks on the SOJP site... mmmm sweet. I would put it in the mid 30s and call it an M3 killer.
(I wonder if BMW and Audi are paying Subaru to NOT bring over the B4 )

I see two issues that keep the B4 from crossing over:
(1)F-ing EPA and DOT will prolly handicap the car (a record 5 cats... mark my words)
(2)The need for higher octane fuels. Its hard enought to find 94 octane let alone 100. SOA would have to rework the engine to run on our 92-94 grade... and I bet that won't be a cheap venture.

The B4 will certainly be SOA's entry into the luxury/performance category, and if what they bring over is remotely like what is to be found overseas... hold on folks... we're gonna be eating WRX's for lunch!

Not to make the B4 sound weak, but if you want the baddest wagon in creation, it's not from Japan, it's a Kraut.

The Audi RS4 is a twin-turbo v6 with over 380hp, six-speed and all-wheel-drive. The S4 Avant is a much neutered version of this rocket.

No, they don't import it either...

Alright Alright the Audi RS4 Avant is THE King of wagons. PERIOD. Long live the King. But from a practicle standpoint why doesn't Soob import the WRX engine with only 230ish bhp, with the already LEV certification from the EPA and drop it into a "tuned by STi" Legacy body assembled in Indianna. They could call it a STi GT or something and make up some special body work, and seats. What do they have to lose. The engine is already certified, and the body/drivetrain is already "crash tested" and proven. No need for any R&D money. I honestly believe the some SOA people read this board and that the i-club MIGHT have had a small part in bringing the WRX to our shores. If we raise enough stink someone out there just might hear our cries in the wilderness and do something untinkable like sell a Legacy with a 230 hp 220 ft/lbs of torque here in the states! God Forbid that ever happens, I would have to "crash" my Leg. and get a new one.
I'm only kidding all you people from my insurance company.

That is the eternal question we've been asking for years.

It's just not going to make them much money, or so they think. Witness the ST-X, a Forrester with a truck bed and supercharger.

Puhleeeeeze! Give us a REAL car...the WRX is cool but it's still "boy racer" to me.
