Default Customizing STi logo

UPDATE :: 6-10-06
Pictures of finished grill badge, Post #14

Has anyone else done this on their car? When I bought my STi, the old owner changed the small door STi logos to gold, so I went with that theme and ran with it. My car is black with gold BBS wheels, so it looked nice. Since then, I have changed my foglight covers to gold (I have F4 / car club decals that are gold as well) and now the last part - doing the front and rear STi grill/trunk badges. I had a spare 05-06 STi badge from when I swapped trunks with an 06 STI when I had my old 02 WRX. I took the badge off and it's been sitting around ever since, so I decided to try out what I thought might look good. I do hand-painting (pinstriping, lettering, airbrushing, etc. etc.) so I have tons and tons of One-shot enamel paint and brushes and all that good stuff, so I went at it. I used One-shot metallic gold paint on my spare trunk emblem, and it came out real nice. Took some time, especially on the sides of the raised pink part, but I didn't feel like rushing it. Anyways, enough talk, here are a couple pics of my practice one...

(sorry for the crappy pics)

This weekend I will be attacking my car and doing the same thing to the badge on the trunk, as well as the grill badge (that will be a pain because it's so small). I will take some pics of that when it's all done. Here are some pics of the car how it is now, for an idea...

I know it's not for everyone, but I figured why not post it up

It's a bit hard to take pics of... it looks lighter in person. My camera sucks when there is low light, and I can't hook it up to a tripod or anything crazy like that so the crap pics will have to do until it's on the car.

Thanks guys. I work at a couple sign / truck lettering shops so I work with vinyl and plotters all day, and we have all sorts of logos for lots of companies, one of which being the STi logo. I just measured the stock foglight covers, and cut some new ones in metallic gold.

I could really do the STi logo in whatever color I wanted... red, blue, white etc. The lighter the color, the tougher it'd be to cover the pink probably... but I am not limited to one coat or anything. I thought the gold was going to give me a hard time covering but it actually wasn't bad. There wasn't a big surface area to cover so it didn't streak really or anything. Metallic paint is a pain to letter with.

Update:

Today I tackled the front grill badge emblem. Tomorrow I am going to try and make time to do the rear, which I imagine will be easier than the grill. I popped the grill out and did it inside my house, but it was still pretty difficult because it's small. Anyways, I like the result a lot as it matches my foglight covers and cleans up the front end. Pics of the trunk badge will be posted when I finish it. Thanks for looking

Nice.

I was thinking of doing something similar, but instead of painting it a solid color, I was thinkinf of smoking (like taillights) the chrome-wannabe badges on my LT.

looks good, but wheres the pic of the trunk badge painted black/gold?

Also, did you debadge your trunklid? Might want to consider painting the subaru letters metallic gold like that and putting them back on. It wouldnt be as "clean" as a shaved trunk, but would be unique to anyone who knows what stock looks like.

Thanks guys

Jim - hit me up with whatever idea(s) you have... I'm down for doing anything

The trunk badge that I already painted was a spare one that I had taken off of my 02 WRX's trunk (I traded trunks with an 06 STI, and took the badge off). I wanted to test it out before actually doing the one on my car. I didn't have a lot of time today, so I only got to do the grill one... I am aiming to do the trunk one tomorrow and I will post pics up of that.

I had some spare car stickers that I had laying around and stuck them on my laptop a while ago... also have a bunch of BMX ones and whatnot from when I used to ride.

G3Red04WRX - My trunk is debadged except for the STi emblem, so painting the spare letters would be a no-go. I think doing that might be a bit overkill IMO, it might end up looking a bit too blingy. I think black Subaru letters on a black car would look sweet, however.
