Thumbs up Dog Owners, have you read "Marley & Me"?

If not, I recommend it. I am through the first 10-12 chapters. Good stuff that any dog owner will appreciate and enjoy, especially if you have or have had a Lab.

I've heard it's a great book. My parents read it a while back. They have a black lab which at 4 years old hasn't seemed to grow out of the "puppy stage"

This alone brought tears to me eyes...the wave of memories of my own Black Lab that was truly my best friend growing up was something I have not thought of in along time...seems like a great story about a great dog...might have to pick it up...

I need to pick up something like this. I'm reading Night and In Cold Blood and both are, shall we say, downers.

I get too emotional with dog and horse stories these days.

I think I need a miata.

Night...not a fun story...my wife read it and I read parts of it...no thanks...I can do without that imagery...

And the Elie Wiesel special on Oprah was very interesting and heavy on the heart...

I miss my mutt (mostly lab) for exactly those reasons. Dumb as a stick, loyal as anything and always a source of amusement.

I can't wait to have a yard and get a dog of my own.

Good read. I didn't read the last chapters - coincided with the death of my lab.

So, the dog dies at the end? Well, no need to read this now.

I don't know if Marley died at the end. What I meant to say was, after my lab died I couldn't read about another dog anymore.

A friend of mine just had to put his black lab down last week. I knew hiM since he was a puppy and he was always a great dog. More person than dog though, he rarley socialized with other dogs and enjoyed the company of people much more. I look at my dog now and his grey snout and think that soon enough it will be his turn.

Well, considering the book is a reflection on his life during a time where he owned the dog, knowing the dog dies won't ruin anything. It's the HOW that gets you. I can't read books like that. Too depressing, although I am reading a book about suicide!

My GF got me this book for Xmas and I finished it last night. What a great book. I'm such a wimp when it comes to stories about dogs though.

I started reading this book about 3 months ago. I got to the last few chapter, and I just couldn't finish it. It was around the same time that my dog was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and I couldn't put myself through finishing the book. It's still on my night stand. I may finish it some day, but more than likely I won't. But it was a great book up to that part. Made me cry just comparing Marley's aging to my own dogs aging.
