Unhappy Insurance Institute Ratings

This is gonna cost us a bunch of bucks. The new Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (aka safety Nazis) now has the WRX as about the worst car in terms of collision AND especially theft losses. See the full list at:
Insurance Institute Ratings

This is bound to make the insurance companies raise their rates on WRX vehicles. Not going to be fun at all.

So you're blaming the messenger for delivering the message? The problem is not with them, but with those wreaking and stealing the cars.

No, I'm NOT blaming the insurance companies for the miserable theft and collision data. The theft data is because the car is so desireable - and cheap enough to be left outside by many owners. The collision rate is due to bad driving. As a pilot I had to get additional training for high performance planes - car licenses ought to also be limited to vehicles one is qualified to drive.

Luckily State Farm, who I use, rates the wagon and sedan differently. The loss rates for the wagon are much lower. Smaller insurance companies use IIHS data.

I see I linked to the old report - whoops. But there is a new news release TODAY that is being reported in the press. It does NOT mention our cars. Will be interesting to see the report on the 2005 cars in a few hours.
