Default Astronautalis.... get his album.

Astronautalis.... is prettymuch the ****. He is like super-chill hip hop with really interesting beats. one song on the new album has a banjo even. i can't even describe it or compare it well.... it vaugely reminds me of "why?".

its best described as "hip-hop that sounds nothing like hip-hop"

just give it a listen:
http://www.myspace.com/astronautalis

gaston ave and oceanwalk are the bomb-diggity (off old albums) and entire new CD is incredible.

how is it NOT hip hop?

handsdown: i am fully in approval of him making it. i am just a bit bummed cause I thought my constant promotion at the stations was making at least a small difference.

to be honest, i didn't know about him until i heard a bagel shop playing his whole song from the pepsi commercial... and i was like "holy crap, that's actually really good!" so i asked and they were like "yeah, it's lyrics born" and i got the cd.

but seriously this is like, about as hiphop as the postal service. maybe a little bit more gangsta, but just as hiphop.

i'd disagree with that... just cause he RAPs fairly often. my perception could be super borked though cause I've seen him live. beat machines usually equals hip hop, as does a 10 minute freestyle.

i didn't know he did a pepsi commercial either.

what the hell dude, he totally ripped off The Weakerthans "Left and Leaving" in "My Dinner with Andy" the first 20 seconds of the song is almost the chorus of that song. WTF!?!

it's like the same tune, similar lyrics...I literally thought it was a cover of the original Weakerthans song.

You say that like it's the first time one musician has ripped off another.

So you don't know that most classic rock bands ripped off the old bluesmen at one time or another?
