Forester German Castrol 0W30 used oil analysis, 7,478 miles, '04 FXT

Looks like I need to switch to a thinner o i l next winter. My f u e l is too high due to short trips (commute 5 miles each way), thick oil and long o il ch ange interval. I can't believe how shear stable this stuff is.

First column is current (gold GC), second column gold GC w/6,144 miles, third column green GC w/5,930 and fourth is M1 5W30 w/5,774.

Dennis: Your fuel dilution had been improving, though it jumped back up to a problem level in this oil. The viscosity increased and this is backwards of what we normally see with high fuel, so we arenít sure if the fuel is a major concern or not. The viscosity was still in the 30W range, so we canít complain about it too much. Iron wear increased with the longer oil run which is normal, and all other wear still looks good. Sodium could show some antifreeze, though no potassium was found, so we donít think thatís the case. Weíll keep an eye on these findings next sample.
