I know that the suspension components are not compatible, but are the Outback, and the regular Legacy otherwise mechanically interchangable?
I'm looking at some mods like brakes/exhaust/headers/intake, and nobody lists OB separate from Legacy. But, they don't for suspension, either, so I'm concerned.

Pretty much any engine mod can be made with the OB vs. the Leg. What you have to look out for would be anything that dealt with the suspension. From what I learned when I had my 97 OB the axles are longer on the OB compared to the Leg. This is due to the raised suspension. So those mods are out of the question unless you drop in new axles. Also I would be careful with SS brake lines, they might not be long enough to allow the wheel to travel without getting hung up.

I am finding that most tuners don't list it because no Outback owners want to mod theirs. Well, bully for them
.Yea, the rest of the car is exactly the same. It is just the pesky ride height issue that keeps us from using Legacy suspension bits, and no one has developed Outback stuff yet. you CAN use Legacy swaybars, and brakes, though. |

According to my Mitchell parts book the axles are the same OB, GT L, Brighton 1995-2001, all the same axle. The only diff is the springs, sway bars, & the struts, everything else is the same.

If that is the case then there is some hope for the OB. When I had mine I contacted every shop from Primitive to whatever, and I got about 100 different answers. I sold the OB and Bought a Leg.
