Default Husky 94 vs 91/92... LOGS Pls!

Ok, I've decided to start a thread looking at logs of cars running different maps with various fuels. Before each post, please include the date, a list of engine/power mods and the map you are running along with the fuel octane, brand and location puschased.

Ok, I'll start. This was a run I did last night (June 11).
Mods: Stg 2 - 91 octane OTS map
Fuel: Husky 94 (Bought at Mohawk on 16th Ave)

Data Log:

Based on the above it looks like I was getting up to 5 degrees of knock correction. Although I clipped the data a bit, I did have up to 43 degrees of total advance at one point.

Tonight I plant to load up the 93 map on 94 fuel and see what I get. If I don't get any negative knock correction then it should be OK right? Plus, I can compare the g/s to see if I get more or less air into the engine (i.e., power).

Lastly, I plan to do a run on 91 using the 91 OTS map (once this tank of 94 is gone) to show that the car pulls timing and adds it back slowly once you go from 94 to 91. I have noticed this in the seat of my pants but want to prove it. So, if my knock correction stays at 0 or less, I will have proved my hypothesis.

Feel free to provide your input where you can.

Cheers, JC

You can't log with an AP. You need to either buy deltadash or similar software or download the free Tari logger or whatever it's called. You just need to use your AP cable to connect the laptop to the ecu.

Yeah, just go to this site and download the software: http://www.tari.co.za/cgi-bin/yabb2/...num=1138965460

Then use your AP cable to hook to your laptop. Read the user's manual first though. Oh, and don't try to log too many parameters at once as it REALLY slows down the sampling rate.

So I did a run using the 93 OTS map on 94 octane last night (June 12). And yes, the car feels faster.

Mods: Stg 2 - 91 octane OTS map
Fuel: Husky 94 (Bought at Mohawk on 16th Ave)

Data Log:

So, in a nutshell, it looks like I was getting up to 9 degrees of knock correction and therefore far more advance. No timing was pulled and EGT's appear acceptable at around 680C or 1250F. Now the IAT got as low as 17C but still... WOT in 5th gear at 28.5psi MAP (15.5 psi of boost) at 4900 RPM and 200kph and I still had +9 degrees of knock correction! I'd say that the Husky 94 is the shizznit. For that matter, a guy in town with an EVO 8 that is supposed to require 96 octane runs Husky 94 without any issues. So there you have it.

Now my next experiment will be to run the 91 map on 94 fuel and then go to 91 gas and see what happens. My guess is a lot of pulled timing.

mmmmm Where do I start.

Where are you getting your A/F reading from.

Where are you getting your EGT reading from.

Looks to me you have missfire on the first map because its pig rich and its showing as knock. This is based on you reading the stock A/F from the stock 02 sensor.

All data is from stock sensors which is why I didn't comment on A/F. I thought the stock EGT number would be good though. Am I wrong?

I'm not sure why the car shows knock on the 91 map but it doesn't show up when I run the 93 map. Seems kinda odd to me as well. It's especially odd where it showed up.

Just so I'm straight here... +knock corr means its added timing (i.e., no knock) and -knock corr means its taken away timing (i.e., knock), correct? At least thats what the ECU explorer info tool says. BEcause if I'm wrong, this means the 93 map is pulling way more timing.

You are correct on the knock.

IMHO
Your 91 map is so pig rich that your getting misfires and is showing as knock.

EGT's readings after an uppipe cat is inaccurate at best.

Without the correct tools for tuning, you and I are completely in the dark.

Wait for Jarrad to tune.

FWIW
I have no trouble tuning for power but not knowing cylinder pressures based on WHP gained thru each degree of timing led me to get Dyno tuned, not forgetting the hardest tuning is for smooth delivery of power thru the whole RPM and load range. Jarrad is the man.

Phew! ***wipes brow with back of hand***

I have no cat in my up-pipe so I figured my EGT's should be "close" to actual.

I know there is room to play with the AFR but I don't want to be the one to do it. Especially not on the stock O2 sensor. I can't remember, which of the two sensors does the AFR reading come from again?

I am definitely getting the PDX pro-tune but part of what I am doing here is trying to learn so when it comes time for me to have to do this on my own in a few years, I will know what in the hell I am doing. Plus, now I have a baseline to compare the "after pro-tune" logs to.

This is also giving me some insights into whether the Husky 94 is worth the money or not and whether using the 93 Cobb OTS map is safe until I get pro-tuned. Also, I thought others who didn't or couldn't get into the pro-tune might benefit as well. Its all about learning and sharing info.

Cheers all, JC

Here's a run we did on Husky 94 in a 2006 Stg 2 STi:

Travis, can you PM you email addy so I can email you the raw log files? Thx, JC

EDIT: Everyone notice the 230+ g/s of air going into that bad boy? Most I could get on my 2002 WRX with 94 octane stg2 93 Cobb OTS map was 188 g/s.

This might be of interest. I have a '06 WRX and the Accessport. I downloaded the logging sw from Tari.co.za to try it out a few days ago.

The MAF reading peaked at ~185g/s,which is close to your Stg2 WRX with the 2.0L engine.

I was running 91 gas from Esso with the 91 map. I'll post the log file tonight.

I'm surprised you only got a little over 12 psi of boost. Your g/s should be even higher I would think at full boost. Those 06's are bad-ass machines.

I think ~12PSI is full boost (for stock anyway). In the issue of the SubieSport where dyno'd an '06, the boost max'd out at ~0.8 Bar, which is ~12PSI
