Default Brand new, 2005 WRX Limited.... SMASHED.

Was stopped at a light the other day, and someone decided to rear end me.

I took a pretty good beating from the SUV which road up over my bumper, and trashed the trunk area, and rear 1/4 panels...

Here's the question, damage is adding up over $5000 so far at 40/hr + parts, there is frame damage to the rails as well. Otherwise, most all of the stuff on the bill is for aesthetic type work...

Once her insurance company fixes all, do I keep it, or get rid of it? Should I be worried about the sensitivities of my AWD train? I can send pictures if you PM me, I didn't want to post one here.

Thanks,
Lau

well if there's frame damage, i'd be very skeptical of it afterwards.. umm, unless they throw her on a machine to make sure the frame is square and true, then i think after that you should be ok..

i'm not sure about oe replacement parts BUT if aftermarket is cheaper, you might want to see if you can go that way.. ie. CF trunk, painted.. cf hood painted (i know some cf is actually heavier than the OE parts, but that will be up to you).. an exhaust..

its not to scam the insurance company into paying more for the vehicle, just replacing it with "upgrades" of the same cost as the OE replacement would cost. so please hold your flames

i know it might be hard to look at but do you have any pictures?

i too was involved in an accident. fortunately for me it wasn't as much damage as you. but it hurts nonetheless.

in an effort to keep my low insurance the way it is, i am fixing all damages myself through parts sourced from good ol' nasioc classifieds, and from subiegal aka www.subarugenuineparts.com

check their OEM collision catalog...they have EVERYTHING.

Ouch...I've been rearended before, thankfully not in my Subie. I hate how EVERYONE (at least in Miami) tailgates...it really drives me nuts.

Yea, you can take the adjusters original quote and walk away with the cash if you want. Its your money once he cuts you a check.

Downside is that if you dont sign the check over to a repair shop, if there are additional costs later, insurance wont cover it. Once the shop has the check and the car, they can spend another 5000 dollars if it can be justified (i.e. having a FULL inspection of ANYTHING that could have been damaged) and have anything replaced that shows to have any damage from the accident.

You could walk away with a whole new rear half of your car if you mechanic is good enough at talking to the insurance company.

Whether the car is physically ruined or not, its never really going to feel the same to you as the owner. You may be just as well off selling the car once its repaired, attempt to get what you owe on it, and start over with a new one.

Let them fix it if they insist. Then, file for a loss of value. Then, sell it with a quickness and get an 06.

You guys haven't driven in NJ then. I drive 100+ miles/day and get tailgated in my tiny civic by SUV's all the time...slow people "rush" in front of you so that they don't have to be behind anybody, they make you hit your brakes and then go 20mph below the limit.

There's a reason we have the highest rates in the country.

Yeah, I am ok other than some occasional neck pain and difficulty sleeping...

They ARE repairing it currently... the main question is, should I definitely trade it since they are having to bend the frame due to a concern of future problems with the AWD train? Or take the loss of value check they give me (in addition to doing the repairs) and chance it...

Sort of looking for a subaru / repair / body shop expert opinion for help.

The neck pain and difficulty sleeping should cover a new car.

Ask about deminished value compensation.. Once its fixed, sell it! Get something else, even another wrx if u want. But as an insurance adjuster i would not recommend that anyone keep a car that has had previous frame damage. You likely just lost thousands of dollars in value

You do that whenever you buy a car. It ain't a t-bill. Just make sure it is fixed right, and will not rust next year. Have a second frame shop inspect it after the repair. Ask for diminished value, and compensation for lost warranty. (Use the Subaru extended warranty for an example of cost) Then drive it till the wheels fall off.

Yeah quick, wipe the plates! Wouldn't want someone to find your car sitting in the junk yard.

Yeah, keep flaming people..

Too bad it's NOT IN THE JUNKYARD. It's being fixed, and the easiest way to steal parts off of a car is when they are being fixed. (Battery unplugged, alarm no worky, doors normally unlocked)

So tool, keep on tooling along until you actually understand things. Covering your plate is something people do for a reason, and if you want to see their plate, make friends with them and go see it. until then, **** off.

I take it you have never driven in the Salt Lake City, UT area. I see cars everyday that look as if they are being towed by the car in front of them because they are tailgating so Fu**ing close.
