How much money do you have? With enough money, anything is possible.

You'll run out of gears at about 135mph. As far as hp vs speed, it takes almost 182hp to get an RS up to 150 MPH. Click this link...

Pardon my ignorance but what do you mean by diesel turbo. Do you have a turbo from a diesel engine that you want to use on your rs. As far as how fast you can go with "alot" of money. Its hard to say , but with say 7000 you could run high 12's with good reliability and safety. With 10000, you could probably run low 12's and maybe 11's. The best answer is find out for yourself, and let us know where that gets you. Oh and search about peoples turbo kits.

Just buy some Pro-Long and some No Fear stickers. You will gain 150HP instantly.

Speed cost money. How fast do you want to go?

Of course, there is always the venerable type-r sticker. You cansmoke anything on the road with one of those. But I don't know many people who can handle that much power.

Go to an old post of mine: Aero Horsepower

Either you reduce your frontal area, your coefficient of drag (COD), increase your horsepower or a combination of the mentioned and you will reach your goal. At stock you are drag limited to 127-128mph.

How fast you accelerate to get to the TT supra or Rx7's top mph depends on your hp/weight ratio. Try to get your hp to weight ratio the same as the above cars while reducing your COD to that of those cars and you should be in the ballpark. Yeah...sounds simple but in application it's ----> Good luck!

Kevins right, this is why my less powerfull L can have a better top speed than an RS. I have less frontal area and only a .32 cd (same as an NSX) compared to a .35cd of the RS.

did ya have a rev or speed limiter cutter thing took out? or did a engine management system of some sort(TEC II or some other) take it off?

140mph is fast enough to say fast. Even at 100mph, some people's hearts are racing.

I just let off before the stock rev limiter kicked in at 6250... fuel cut regulators should be banned from vehicles. I used a vehicle speed calculator on some web page to figure it out with the ratios of everything. And yeah, got my heart racing pretty good.

It took me a little bit but I got my car to pass 120 on a strait away one night comming from NC going to my new home in savannah GA. Well the speedomiter seemed to slow down at about 122-5ish and this is in top gear with the foot to the floor in an automatic 02rs. Me, a friend, a heavy arse sub in the trunk with a weeks worth of clothes and 2 computers. I would say that at about 110 the car felt floaty but then once 120 came the car started to "restick" to the floor. So I would agree the fastest a stock rs can go is around 127 (my was modified with the cobb cai so I can't give you a personal account). my 2 's

Weight is not a factor in top speed. The only thing more wieght does is makes it take longer to get there.

realy? what about the whole hp - weight factor? (I don't wanna start some mathimatical war) but I thought it would take a certain amount of hp to get the weight of the car at a certain speed. Thats all. mabye I am wrong.

If you are really concerned about performance, then you probably want an RS to get up to top speed as fast as a TT or an RX7. Problem is, those cars are both a little smaller than the RS, and they're purpose built as sports cars. The Impreza's start life as a practical, AWD smallish family car, then some fancy body work and a larger engine is installed (well that's basicly it).

You can certainly make a Subie go fast. Heaven knows most of the people on this board are doing that the question is, what are you looking for?

Speed - If all you're concerned about is speed, then just buy a '91 honda civic hatchback rolling chassis, get a '94 prelude engine installed in it, add a few mods and for under $10,000 you have a power-to-weight ratio close to a porsche. Of course, this looks kinda ghetto, it doesn't handle very well offroad or in poor weather conditions, and every 3rd racer car in souther california has already used the idea, but who cares, it's fast!

Looks - If you want a great looking car for cheap, buy a totalled or salvage title Lexus IS300 or BMW 3 series. You can pick these up for $15,000, $10,000, or even less at auctions all over the country. Pay some shop a few grand to slap on some bondo, paint it up, an wadda ya know, you have a damn fine looking car for cheap. It'll make the honeys want you, is that what you're looking for? Problem is, you'll most likely have a bent chassis that leaves your tires wearing unevenly for the rest of the cars life.

Handling - If all you're concerned about is handling, then get an older Subie w/ low miles, strip the interior out, upgrade the suspension, lose the spare tire, take out the door beams, take off the bumpers and bumper mounts, change the oil, and you'll handle in all kinds of weather like a dream! Trouble is, your car wont' look all that smashing and it wont be very safe.

NOW! (The end of the rant approaches). If you want a great looking car that's not extremely expensive, goes nice and fast, handles well, looks great, is reliable and doesn't look the same as every 5th car on the freeway, get a late-model subaru w/ a few thousand miles on it. Spend a couple hundred bucks on new tires and a few body mods to set yourself apart from the crowd, and you have a quick little car that is unique and fun to drive.

Of course, I spent $17,500 on a MY00 Impreza last year (10,000 miles on it) then just this month dropped $5,200 for a used turbo and TECII. I'm hoping to see the better side of 250hp and trounce the stock WRX's out there in a straight line AND around the corners. So you see, it's all about what you really want in my book, stick with Subaru, Subies rule.

I routinely hit the rev limiter at 6,300+ in 5th gear. (my digital tach says about 6,400rpm while the dash tach says 6,300)

The Cobb gear ratio calculator at www.imprezars.com/images/gearratiocalc.xls says the top speed is 144.33mph at 6,250 rpm with the stock size tires of 205/55x16 at 24.88 inches tall. Here is a speedo shot at 138.44mph
