Default gc brakes needed... suggestions

hey well i decided to take a look at my brakes today while my cars still sitting in the garage waiting for parts, and the rear are very low. I noticed that none of the pads that are on the car have those little metal tabs that are meant to sqeak when low? Why is that? Or are they on the inside pad?

But anywayz, what kind of pads are good. I dont do any racing, but some spirted driving sometimes. I want to be able to just start the car up and go and good in cold and warm weather and keeping brake dust to a minimum.
Thanks
Wojtek

I think you can buy the brake pads without the "squealers" on them...as for which ones to buy, I dunno...but I am interested in the LESS dust part!

Any decent 'street' pad should be fine, its only the more hardcore track/racing pads that need to be warmed up, just get something that won't fade under aggressive use.. for example, kvrs dont need to be warmed up, don't dust much, and wont fade during a 'spirited drive'... Just get whatever your budget allows... and don't forget to put that anti-squeal goop on the back of the pads

freaked myself out nicely when I was 'driving spiritedly' through some twisties and hit the brakes before a turn with the OEM pads and they had heated up quite a bit and didn't really slow me down... fade FTL

Yeah, that's about right.

OEM pads FTW, never had any problem with them but then again my priorities are cold stopping ability and low noise, and I couldn't care less about dust.

How about Hawk HPS pads from Lordco. I'm probably going to get those for the STi after the stockers are gone.

i dun think they have HPS for the rear pad in stock...

i have HPS at the front, PBR deluxe for the back...working just good

but compares to my old setup (RS size power slot rotors with endless pads, and now WRX size OE rotors with Hawk HPS...i actually like the old setup better )

OEM is expensive, the one from Japan is like over $1xx, they have a cheap one which still cost like $60 to $70?

i was using endless NAY...just one bite on the brakes and they will pretty much get to the temperature...i dun really notice any warm up but i would normally be easy on the first block or two...then afterall it's all good...no fade, no warpage on the power slot rotors etc...i drive it hard some time too (mostly my sister drives)...yet now, with the HPS and WRX size rotors (from my legacy, only 7000km when i put them on)...has warped twice...this second time was very minor, won't notice unless i am over 100kph when i brake...

PBR deluxe or metal master are good stuff too...replacing the stock rotors out is also a good investment...part of the "soft" feel is from the cheapy stock rotors....

Hey 5zigen,

So the combination I have now, is less prone to pad buildup/warping on the rotors ya?

Brembo/HPS if you forgot by the way.

Just get the subaru 6star pads. They are made out of new material (this past year) and we haven't had one that squeels yet. They last just as long as OEM pads, and made almost out of the same material for much less money.
