Default What is a Protune?

Quick noob to subaru question here, what is a protune?

I see alot of posts saying they are getting one or had one but what exactely does it do? It is like a AP? Is it dyno'in the car then screwing with the computer? What mods make a protune worth it?

Someone enlighten me please! Thanks in advance!

Thanks for moving this, I didn't know there was a AP forum.

Ok so basically you get a AP and then a tuner will go beyond that and change the maps more?

So i'm guessing it will squeze the most HP outta the car.

Anyone tell me what mods will make it worth it? Turboback/intake etc...

And after reading most peoples threads on it, it appears that they will gain around 20-50 whp with a protune, is that normal?

Conservative tune, hardcore tune. It's all up to you, and whether the tuner knows what he's doin'.

T/B is one of the mods that will make you yield a pretty good increase in power.

Thanks nxttruck2002 you have been a help.

One last question, I know this will vary according to what tune but any idea the range of cost to a protune?

Wow, that wasn't the response I was looking for...I'm sorry i'm not familiar with everything on the website, how about I just give you the $400 for bothing to ask a qestion on this forum that you had to respond to.

BTW, I was just wondering beacuse I see the word protune alot and a search came up with nothing as to what I wanted to know. I don't have any plans to get a AP let alone get it protuned.
