Guys, I'm having a bit of a dilemma. My car is acting up and I am not sure where to start. I am having a stumbling? hesitation?
missing? problem under moderate acceleration. I changed out the spark plugs (which helped with the power) but it didn't help this wierd lagging? surging? thing. This doesn't seem to happen at full throttle but is very noticeable at anywhere from cruise to 2/3 throttle. IF you have any ideas, I'd appreciate it if you emailed me. I was a mechanic, so I will be familiar with technical terms, But I just am not familiar with this platform yet. (anyone have an rx7 that is missing, I can help you there!). Thanks for any help.

Take a look at Gary's "Hesitation" fix and see if it describes your car's symptoms. If so, You are not alone!!

Yeah, I second Glenn's post. I had the hesitation problem on my '97 2.5. The Subaru TSB fingers the 2.2s for some makes as well. The easiest way to find out if that's theproblem is to do an ECU reset. Either disconnect the negative battery terminal for 30 mins, or, if you hate resetting your radio, pull-out the #2 Single Bus Fuse (or something like that) in the front engine compartment fuse box, probably give the flash memory a 20-30 mins to clear.
On-restart, prime the fuel pump a couple times by turning ignition all the way, back and forth w/o starting. Then start & run engine w/o touching the gas until it reaches operating temp. Then shut-down. Start it up again, run it, and see if the hesitation is gone. If it is, then you've got the hesitation problem that Gary describes, and the reset just cleared the ignition timing retard thats stuck in your ECU. But it'll be back! g'luck!
