Thumbs up Yet another Legacy auto-x triumph!

Once again, I'll save time by just posting the link to the write-up in the NESIC Forum. http://i-club.com/forums/showthread....hreadid=102314 The short story - I ran the fastest time of any of the Street Prepared classes, and I would have won Street Mod too (even though I ran on colder, less grippy pavement than the SM guys did). I surprised myself by beating a 1st gen RX-7 in CSP, a car I had never beaten before (although I had also never competed against that guy since I had the DMS Golds on the car). Woohoo!!

Yup, 225/50-15 V700s on 15x7" Raceline RL-7s. The wheels are pretty damn heavy, and might be replaced before next season with some 15x8" Volks (about 10# lighter at each corner).

Excellent! Congratulations on the Championship win.

Nope, no video clips. I rarely bring my videocamera to auto-x events because I find the footage just doesn't do it justice - the cars just look so slow.

Anyway.... the results are posted: http://www.nyr-scca.com/results1014.htm . In the end I took 8th place overall in raw time among the cars at the event (I got killed in PAX because I'm in Street Prepared, but I don't really worry about PAX). There were a number of Formula Vs and Formula 500s that beat me, but that shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Five of the cars that ran faster than me ran in Heat 4, so they ran on the warm pavement that the rest of the heats didn't get (and hence their PAX scores are much better than everyone else - a good reason to disregard PAX IMHO). I don't know how much of a difference the better pavement conditions really made, so maybe they would have stayed ahead of me regardless, who knows. The other two cars that beat me were hardly cars at all - one was that 1300# non-streetable E-Mod TVR, and the other was a non-streetable F-Prepared TR6 (I'm sure under 2000#, and my F-Prepared Fiero-driving friend said that based on talking to the driver last year the TR6 makes over 250hp).

So, I'm pretty damn proud of myself and my 5-person, 4-door, 175-180 (?) hp, comfortable sporty family sedan.

Why don't you try to show em up in your supercharged Mustang (feel a little wierd saying that on a Scoobie forum, sorry guys).

Hee hee, at this point I'd have to try to drive it Flinstones-style. I broke the crankshaft a few weeks back, so the car will be getting a new engine - probably a 351 stroked to a 396, no blower. Besides, the Mustang isn't as fast as the Subaru for this kind of stuff. One of the E-Mod cars, a Mustang driven by my friend Joe Zanaich, is a fully race-prepped SCCA ITE car, with a 331 putting out over 500hp above 7000rpm. I've beaten him at three events in a row now. On an auto-x course there's just no way to effectively put down that much power. My blown 302 wasn't putting out as much power as his race motor, but it was still more than enough to pulverize the tires through the top of 2nd. On a side note, on a good day at Lime Rock Park, Joe could run around 1:00 lap times, while the Legacy's best would be in the 1:08 range - that kinda illustrates how different the cars are.
