Post need help with rear differential protector

Trying to install the Subaru one on my 2000 RS. No luck. The slots on the rear that are supposed to fit over the diff housing bolts won't fit. The slots aren't wide enough. The instructions say to pry back the housing to make it go. But I've pried and pried and it's still not exposing anything small enough.

Should I be loosening those housing bolts first or something? It doesn't say that in the instructions.

Yes, you need to loosen the bolts so that protector will slide up. Once you've loosen them, pry the diff away and slide up the protector then re-tighten up the bolts.

Yeah, loosen the two bolts going into the end of the diff about 1/2" or so, then slide the protector up in there and pry like mad, pushing up on the protector. It's easier with two people.
