The Hydra is the ONLY stand alone ecu you can get to tune an sti. What I mean is it replaces your stock ecu. No piggy back like the Greddy or Utec. Pretend your car was made to be tuned by the factory, what ecu would it come with? This one.

The only other ecu that is close is the AEM, which doesn't work on drive-by-wire vehicles. If you are looking for a basic em to tune your car, this may not be the best choice since cost is high and you lose obd-II, but if you want the best em money can buy, this is it.

Well you can also get the MOTEC at twice the price, which is also stand alone I think.

Yea motecs are stand alone and an awesome ECU at that... But good luck figuring out a LOT of stuff for yourself as not very many people have put them in subys... or at least the people who have aren't running around on nasioc. I think Crawford/Ispeed has a car or two running them but other then that they're pretty rare.

The hydra is an awesome unit and Phil and the support/legwork that he has done getting these things set up with the wrx/sti is awesome. The base map I got had my car running about as good as it did stock (i had an issue w/ calibrating the wbo2) but once that was resolved I have no complaints. The system is wonderful. When you can go from being tuned for a green w/ 850s and swapping over to a rotated setup with no maf, starting the car up and driving down the road like there was no change... you know you got what you paid for... (note that some minor tweaking was required for in-boost driving but for typical in town and highway driving everything was still spot on... MAP based fueling FTW also popped my tmic off the throttle body one time and was driving around wondering why my car sounded louder and I was only getting 8-9 psi lolololol now that was a HUGE boost leak and the car acted like everything was perfect... well minus the low boost)
