Question How many people have over 30,000 miles on a m/t 2.5 rs with no clutch shudder?

On the original clutch.

From the postings, it would seem that clutch shudder is a fairly prevalent problem. So, I'm wondering if most people have this problem or if it's just the minority. I mean...if I decide to purchase an Impreza with the manual transmission...should I just expect to have this problem?

Everyone who has driven their car with the factory clutch for at least 30,000 miles with no occurrence of clutch shudder...please reply here and let us know.

Thanks.

I'm at 23k and it drives like new still. I remember that the my00 had improved clutches though, so maybe that's a factor?

40k klms on my car and it shudders when its cold usually, but its not a chronic problem. Sometimes it happens, and then again other days it treats me pretty good!

Almost to 36K and it mostly only shudders on cold damp mornings and goes away after a few stops. Been that way since I can remember. Told the dealer and they said they didn't feel it and if they took it apart and found "Abuse" It would cost me ~1000 smackers parts and labor

My wifes 00 RS has 59,000 on it and feels fine. It's all interstate driving and is never abused though.

My '01 shudders occasionally on cold/wet mornings. It started at about 12.5k miles, and hasn't gotten any worse at 15k miles. I baby the car, which makes me doubt whether the transmission could handle any additional power or any kind of occasional dragrace/autocross/roadcourse use. If it gets any worse this winter, like every morning, I'll probably take it in and fight with the dealer about it.

Makes me miss my audi quattro. Damn clutch was bulletproof, 120k miles and still going strong.

Post

MY00 44k miles

I hate my clutch... been hating it for over a year. Mine shudders, slips, and is about to be replaced. It started at about 18k. It does not shudder all the time, but it has done it both when warm and cold.

It slips very badly when cold. I'm babying it until I get it replaced.

18k and no problems. I have only drag-launched a couple of times in the last year. Cold weather is coming, we will see.

Default Got shudder?

I bough my car (MY00) with 32000km (aprox 20000Mi) and the clutch was fine. About 10,000km's later it shakes like a freight train in the mornings. And No, I do not abuse my car. It's my daily driver and I don't race it. Took it to the dealer and they tell me they won't even open up the tranny unless I agree to absorb "most of the cost" BA$ARD$!

My stupid clutch has chattered since I bought the car. Its real bad on the cold damp mornings, but it will chatter all the time. Took me some time to learn to drive it without trying to slip the clutch. Its smoother to just take off than it is to try to ease into in. I have heard form other people that there is something wrong with it, but it grabs hard, doesn't slip, and I say why fix it if it really aint broke. (even though its not perfect, I have gotten used to it.)
I have a 99 with 50,000 miles on it, had it since new, and the clutch hasn't changed at all. But I don't abuse the clutch at all either, I don't ride the clutch, I double clutch down shifts, and try not to slip the cluth at all, all the time.
If it was up to me every car on the road would be a manual, they are better in almost every way. But its personal opinion. Good luck.

Clutch chatter is essentially a vibration caused from the clutch gripping and releasing repeatedly. It's not caused by the linkage or a faulty pressure plate, but usually from a previously overheated friction plate and flywheel. It is usually very obvious when you have clutch chatter. For example, mine is so bad that the whole dash and steering wheel shake when the clutch is partially engaged and cold. It's not very pleasant... in fact its really annoying.
