Default FS: ion performance lowering springs - legacy specific item

Hi Guys.

Please don't flame me for this one. Since the auction is legacy specific I figured I would post here for those of us that don't check the other places.

I have a set of Jack's ion performance lowering springs from my '96 wagon for sale on ebay. The springs have ~5k or pure highway mileage on them. The reserve is low, so at least have a look if you are interested :-)

Two questions:

1. What is your reserve?

2. Why is shipping so expensive? UPS Ground would not even come close to $40.00.

Many eBay sellers overcharge for shipping because eBay does not charge you fees for shipping costs, but they do for your sale price. On fixed price items (Buy It Now), this is acceptable IMO. For bid items, it is kind of like an insured profit on the item.

Yeah, I know the theory. I buy and sell stuff on ebay all the time.

If he has a reserve, he shouldn't be overcharging for shipping. It's probably $20.00 or less to ship those springs from NJ to me.

Not for nothin', but who makes the "cheap low-grade soon-to-sag lowering springs offered by other companies out there"?

Hi Guys. To address your questions:

as per Jack at ion (via email):
"We use to offer whiteline products, however they weren't durable enough for
N.American climates. Their springs will sag, and they would rust quite
easily."

1. It's a lot lower than the buy-it-now.

2. Looks like this one was answered (full details below).

Exactly. I stated the fixed shipping price at the bottom with my terms (although ebay of course already posts it) to make sure that it is clear to anyone BEFORE they bid.
I guess I didn't realize that bidders would care how the payment is considered by ebay. I, as a bidder, am only ever concerned with the bottom line. High bid + S&H = price I pay for the item.

As stated in the auction page: "If you do not agree with ANY of these terms please do not bid"

I didn't realize this would cause such a stir. My apologies...

I never really thought about having a high shipping price. I always just offered the $8.10 flat rate USPS shipping. sometimes it bugs me if when folks overcharge for shipping just to jack up the price, and it will effect if i bid on that item or not. I have over 400 ebay transactions and counting so far. but i'm cheap and looking for a deal. so if the total cost is less than 50% of retail, i guess its still a good deal.

Why? He's cross-promoting an ebay auction here, so it's perfectly fine and relevant for me to ask questions.

And I'm pretty sure that overcharging for shipping in order to avoid fees is actually in violation of ebay terms. I know it's there somewhere.

-I only ask these questions because I'm interested in those springs. But not at the "buy it now" price, nor with shipping double what it should cost.

I thought I was an ebay junkie at 263 and counting. Are you one of those sellers promoting those turbo gas mileage improvment gadgets?

I usually set a slightly higher shipping cost to cover any possible miscalculation of shipping, particularly large items. If I can calculate the exact caust that is great. If I don't have the materials at hand (box, shipping peanuts) then I throw my best guess at the shipping.

Hell, I just got charged $40 shipping from a seller, and I found out later the shop was just down the street from me, I could have picked up the parts in person. Oh well.

Well, in this case, he'll get nothing at all.

I'd gently suggest that in order to have a more succesful auction, Hekki (sp?) should scrap the reserve price and just start the bid price at the minimum amount he'd want to recoup. And perhaps charge actual shipping, not double.

Thanks for the tip

Considering your replies to this thread (equal to mine) I would guess you are:
  1. bored at work
  2. still interested in springs
  3. both of the above

If your answer is b or c feel free to make an offer...

If you're just wanting to be nice and educate me on the workings of ebay, well, that's fun too!

I'm not sure if I have any "play" money right now, but if you don't mind, PM me with your asking price.

I'd still only pay ~$20.00 for you to ship them to me, though.

-As far as ebay workings go- you have 71 positive feedbacks? So you already know how it's supposed to work. This particular auction wasn't so successful, though, eh?
