Default Grinding engine noise 02 WRX

Looking to see if anyone has ever heard this or better yet solved this problem? When the car is started in the morning there is a gringing sound that occurs every 2 sec, which tells me that it is definately something that is revolving that is causing the sound (like a metal rubbing sound) and last like 1 sec. It is comming from the left side of the engine (passenger side). With the car sitting there idleing the sound gradually get less lound until it goes away. It only happens when the car is relativly cold. When the engine is hot it does not happen at all????? HELP

not sure why the timimg belt would make sounds when cold, then go away when the engine is warm. i am not sure but does the belt spin the speed of the crank hence the sound would be alot faster? Remember that the sound happens like every a scrape per second and the engine revolves at idle about 600 times that speed? Please correct me if i am wrong? also if it is the timing belt how would i check that without changing the belt?

You should try putting this in the 2.0l forum. I am curious also because I have this same problem.
