Default Erratic idle @..... idle.

Ok, so I've noticed today that when my car is in neutral at a stop light or whatever my car revs up to 1200 or so and then drops to 1000 and then down to 500. It sometimes goes back up and back down too, I've tried to
run with and without a/d and it dosen't really make much diference. The car has always done this when backing down hills too, so I'm not sure what's up with this, it's like the choke kicks on or something.

Anyone have a clue whats going on? It's not much of a bother, but it sure kills gas mileage.

If it was a wrx I would 99% say dirty idle sensor. Take it to the dealer and hopefully they don't say "we couldn't find anything wrong with it"

My car has done that since I drove it off the lot new.
I have found that this will stop, and will keep a steady idle if you turn the air vent directional knob off of the windshield settings, and make sure the AC is off. On my 05 its the 2 settings the farthest to the right.

This sounds kinda weard, but my theory is that those two settings somehow keep the AC pump active. Just set the air to come out the dash, or the floor, and this Erratic idle will stop.

Then again, it could just be my car that this works on. Nothing wrong with a car that has a little personality.
I definetly dont think anything is wrong with your car.

Ok, so today I tested it a little, changed the way I drive, ran air on and off, everything and it's still doing it. Sometimes after coming to a stop a lights, the car will rev from idle to 2k 4-5 times and then start idling normal, but coming down in 250rpm drops.

I got 280 miles out of this tank of gas with no hard driving, I normally get mid 300.

I'm seriously considering a trade in, end of the year.

It says in the owner's manual that the AC does in fact activate on the two rightmost settings of the directional knob, regardless of whether the AC button is set to ON or OFF. So this is not something unique to your car, it is intended to behave that way.

Your car is still under the drivetrain warranty, why don't you take it in to the dealer for diagnosis and repair?

Well tonight I drove the car to North Carolina and the weather there was rainy and cooler than it's been here (mid 90's) and the car seem to run fine, even once I got back home it was ok, guess my car dosen't like temps above 90. We'll see if the prob continues tomorrow.
