Default TurboXS Type-H BOV w/ WRX adapter

What can I say, it's a simple bolt on affair that anyone can do within about 15 minutes.

Good stuff.

1. It's loud. If you want to get attention, this is the BOV for you. Even at low RPM shifting(3k) it is still heard on the stock setting. You can however add more washers(included) to stiffen it so as to not vent so early.

2. Fitment. It's perfect. It looks like it sticks out a lot, but really it fits just fine.

3. Appearence. It looks rather rugged and feels it too. Really heavy thick gauged metal. Looks like it would last a lifetime.

4. Mark@TurboXS. Mark is excellent. You know I even asked him about things that he doesn't sell and he gave me great answers.

Bad stuff

1. It's loud. For some loud is not desireable. But now keep in mind that TurboXS does not market this as a quiet BOV. On the website they specifically say it's good up to 110db!

2. No choice in colors, red is what you get. A choice of red, blue, and silver would be nice.

3. There is a plug that you use to plug up the return hose that goes back into the intake from the stock BOV. Rather than just plug up the hose, I would rather see something that would get rid of it altogether. Perhaps some type of plug that would go into the intake that didn't obstruct the intake path.

How does this unit compare to others? Well I have no clue. But the sound is unique I have to say. I have heard quite a few different BOV's on different cars and each has their own sound. On the WRX the Type-H BOV sounds like your going through a puddle of water. A HKS BOV sounds like a venting of compressed air when on a Mitsu Eclipse.

Thumbs up

Agree with all, especially the professionalism of Mark and TurboXS. Fortunately I'm close, therefore have asked the same questions he has probably heard over and over again, but face to face. You'd never know it by the way he answers.

Would also mention that my TurboXS BOV is all silver - you're right, looks better.

That's only if your car is cool. Capping off that return intake hose was a PITA with the car hot! Other than that, it was a piece of cake! BTW, it definitely sounds awesome! I'd hate to hear what the RFL (real f'nn lund) model sounds like!

Nice review, question, are you running stock or do you have a MBC? Any drawbacks as far as rough idle or lag?

A BOV shouldn't cause any rough idle or lag. As far as a MBC no, I have a Greddy Profec A! There was no need to get a BOV in any WRX unless your running massive boost on a upgraded turbo. It was more for looks and sound than anything else.

The Blitz BOV was extremely loud, I stood in front of the car with the hood up and he revved to about 4 grand. Bov went off and I got a rining in my ear. It can be heard a few blocks away.

But I notice that it got louder after the Greddy IC piping was installed and the BOV was located right before the TB.

it's not a real high pitch sound as much as it was loud. More of a lower WOOOSH sound instead of a PSSST...

I read it was good up to about 15 to 17 psi, The GSX was running around 13.5psi? (whatever stock is)

what does the WRX run at? if it's about the same boost level, it might sound about the same...

15-17 whoa ! WRX runs about 15 (14.5) stock. But I'm planning on running more than that in the future...looks like I'll have to do some reading...
Thanks for the response PC

forgot to mention....

the BOV in the GSX was the older model line of Blitz, they have came out with a new line that can take higher boost, louder(supposely) , and much smaller.

You can also change the spring rate if you start to boost higher. I think the stock spring is good from 15 to 17 and the harder springs from 17 up to god knows what...(if it's good enough for the skyline...it should be good enough for the wrx.. )

Has anyone tried the Blitz BOV? any comments?

Wow this is a long time since this thread has been used. Anyways, how loud is the TurboXS Type H? I mean how far away can you hear it from? I'm not actually look for anybody to exaggerate, because I'm not really looking for something too loud, but I want it to be heard from like 20 yds away atleast
