Default base or realtime map?

Noob question here, but a little on the technical side. I currently have the Stage 1 base map in 91 octane and want to start running a 93 map, but the question is, base or realtime? 93 is kinda hard to come by around here, however the station closest to my house has it. Would it be better to run a 91base with a 93 realtime or vice versa?

If 93 is hard to come by, then leave the 91 base map there and run the 93 realtime map when you have 93. Just be careful because filling up with 93 doesn't mean you have 93 in the tank. If you use 91 and then fill up with 93 you should have as little fuel in the tank as possible so you actually come out close to 93. There is no difference between a 91 base/93 realtime and 93 base/93 realtime so there is no reason to flash your ECU again. The stage number for the basemap is all that matters if you are going to run a realtime map on-top of the base map (which is not necessary unless you use a different realtime map then your base map).

OK, so I'm a little confused, so what you are saying is that if my realtime map is different than my base map(say 93 vs. 91) it takes precedence over the ase map?

Just keep your current 91oct base map, there is no real power gain by running the 93oct map. To me 5hp just isn't that big a deal. Your real time map overlays your base map on certain parameters, not all though.

My advice is if you don't have 93 readily available, then stick with your 91 octane and 91 base map.

A realtime map will override certain tables in the base map. That is why you can run something like an anti-theft map and have the car not run at all.

Might be a dumb question, but I guess I'm scared to F-up the reliability of my car like everyone else. We only have 89 and 93 oct gas in TN so obviously I'd go with the 93 map, but what are the chances of getting a bad tank of gas and it running like crap. Shouldn't mess up the engine I would hope. Also, anyone who has gone stage 2, did you install the TBE and then reflash, or reflash and then install the TBE, or does it even matter? Thanks for any help.

Go with the 93 map, you will be fine as long as you fill up on 93. It does not matter if you flash the map and then install the TBE or vice-versa, what matters is that you do them together.
