Question Rear bumper skin removal

Help Legacy folks! I'm getting ready to install a Dalan hitch on my 98 GT Wagon and wonder if any of you folks have any experience with removal of the bumper skin. I've been to the dealer and determined it to be held on by 11 "sacrificial" pin/anchor type connectors which appear to be next to impossible to remove without destroying them. I'm prepared to replace them but the 7 along the top are not accessible or even fully visible with the hatch open.
The hitch I plan to install requires that I place/fish some heavy bolt thru backing plates into the bumper beam as well as drill and bolt thru the bottom of the spare tire well. Has anyone seen these parts disassembled or tackled this type of an install?

I took the Hidden Hitch off of my MY'97 OB. It was a total pain. I had to rip up the carpet on either side of the "spare compartment". I learned that you have to jimmy the hold down metal loop thingys to get up the floor. (I hope this isnt too technical) then after getting at the sub-floor somehow find a 4 year old with really small hands and have them feed the bolts and the reinforcing plates into a hole the size of a soft ball. I cant recall the differences in the rear bumper GT vs. OB but the actual mounting of the hitch to the unit body is incredibly frustrating, at least it was to UN-Bolt it. I would not want to try BOLTING it in. I have put 3 hitches on different vehicles, Ford Ranger and Expedition and Jeep Grand Cher. but none of them was as hard to assemble as the Soob was to Disassemble. When I get a hithc for my MY 01 I will gladly pay some schlep to put it on for me. Good luck!

Angry

Thanks Tim. Was beginning to think I was all alone on this. Also starting to think it might be worth it to pay a tech to do this install. I really don't see a problem trimming the cover around the hitch and have already finished the wiring, but this skin thing seems like a real BEAR!
Any other advice from my Legacy Brothers out there? Guess I'll tackle it one way or t'other after I get back from 10 glorious days in the Caribbean! Flying out 6:25am 2morrow. Better get back to packing! Bye!
