Default Saturday cruise anyone--mountains?

I am new to the area-- I would love to meet up with a couple of responsible drivers and go for a drive-- I just moved here a week ago from Irvine Cali and have nothing to do today. I have been to about 6 bike shops because I wanted to buy one -- but haven't found one I really like so far. I bought a house in Sandy but right now I am staying in a hotel in SLC @ State and 220 downtown it think it is the Marriott ( i forgot- I just know how to get there) while I have a few things done to the house.

Anyway-- I can see the beautiful mountains but don't know my way around-- anyone up for a drive I am goona fill up my tank and see what I can find.

Just got home. Wife and I have plans to do dinner and moobie up at union hills. I know we got a small group doing the moobies tomorrow up at unon hills for the fast and furious 3 tokyo drift..5:15 show time. If I had more for knowledge I might have been able to squeezes them both in today.

Sent you a PM. If you want to head up Emmigration, head for the zoo and keep going up...after you come out on the other side you can either go left at the stop sign and head up East canyon or head towards Parleys ( I-80) and head back to SLC.

the zoo is due north of sandy. im sure youve been around long enough to realize that the city is a grid. so if your at say 9000 south then union heights is north of you. its on 7000 south. if you want the zoo than thats at 800 south.

the grid is based off of the temple downtown. main street is 000 east and north temple is 000 south. anything west of main is a west street and anything east of main is an east street. thusly anything north of north temple is a north street and anything south is a south street. pretty basic.

so the zoo is about 3000 east and 800 south and union heights is arount 7000 south and 1300 east. not all the roads go in a stright line vanwinkle which is what 700 east turns into while heading south at about 4500 south, highland drive which is all over the place but mostly above or is 13th east ect ect ect.

go buy a map and have a look. put some pins on major landmarks and youll do fine

It is in Salt Lake City.. Name is Hoogle Zoo. If you take 400south Due east and just follow it to Emigration Canyon, Or This is the Place Monumet. Just East of it is the zoo and the opening to Emigration Canyon. At the top of the Canyon you will want to make a right and head to East Canyon. If you take a Right at the (T) you will head down to I 80, and a Left will take you up East Canyon. Get a Road map cuse you will need it up there.
I hope this clears things up.

if you want to go to the zoo you want to take I15 north to I215 east. folow it and it turns into the 215 east side belt northbound. get off at foothill drive. go till you get to sunnyside and turn right go stright and youll dirve right into the canyon and past the zoo

Just a note, there is construction in the caynon today. East Canyon (also Emigration) exit is affected. If you try to get on to I-80 you are forced to go left (East, Towards Park City), but you can easily turn around at Lamb's Canyon which is the next exit 2 miles up the road and get back on heading West (Towards SLC). I have a bbq at 6:30, but I'd be interested if you want to go around 8:00, it would make for an awesome sky and we can stop a couple places that are fun to soak in the scenery.

Well I followed the directions of Scoobyniteowl and Azn2nr. It was an outstanding time. Since I traveled up and downm the canyon and had daylight left I just had some food and went back out to the highway.

I drove out to the Utah Olympic Ski jump training park...they had an event going on and jumpers doing things that average humans only dream of!!! After that I drove over to Park City to see what it looked like--I have had a killer day enjoying my new home state. I can't wait to get my house finished up--- then it will be a Subaru BBQ at my house to meet everyone.

There is plenty of room since I don't own anything and my house is basically empty... lolol time for a big party before I start buying stuff and moving everything in.

Thanks for the suggestions guys I can't wait to meet a few of you and enjoy a few new canyons as well.

Steve we here like to say Movie instead of jibberish Moobie and such...we like to seem semi intelligent on this thread since most of us can't type fast and usually end up spelling like a 4th grader...or in engrish like azn boy...

If you're looking for something to eat, take a little drive down state street to about 14th south you'll see a building on the right with a green over hang that says "Grinders 13" on it. Best sandwiches you can find in the valley.

We'll have to take you to some of the better canyons in Utah some time this week. Butterfield, the cottonwoods, and my own favorite Johnson Pass (bit of a drive to get there). There's some really fun driving roads around here, you won't be disappointed.
