Thumbs up The Brullen Equal Length Headers are being sold in Toronto! Yippee!!

I went to the Ottawa Rallycross and heard this really neat sounding RS. Took a look under his hood and saw a nice set of headers. Couldn't see the whole thing, but that thing generated power.

Saw the same guy in the Toronto Autosport Club autocross the next day and finally crawled under his car. Nice stuff, equal length and he was spinning all 4 wheels in 1st and 2nd. Got fastest time of the day at that event.

Can they be used with the stock cats? I think the high-flow cat may be a problem with the SCCA STS class rules. Gotta do some research on that...

kelley - You're correct. You can't replace the cats in STS with high-flows....

Seems like it would cost about $700-800, that's pretty expensive.

I believe STS dosen't allow the use of aftermarket headers unless they're carb cert.
Maybe this is only in california, but that's what i recall from the rules.
So regardless of the Cat issue the headers are invalid aswell.
of course i'd still like to see them.

In the other thread, they mentioned that they wanted to get them CARB approved.

Anybody know if that's gonna happen? Has anybody in Calif been asked to be the guinea pig for attaining the elusive CARB EO number?

If it does get CARB approved, I'll gladly drop $1000 for the header/cat/exhaust system.

I'm sure Joe will be making the "official" annoucement soon and he's always quick to answer questions. It looks like he's put alot of hard work into making this happen and the more I hear about these headers, the better they sound. He's an awesome guy to deal with so save up those questions and I'm sure he'll answer them all

Default CARB update

For all those in Cali, I'm working with Bob Baker Subaru in San Diego to get the headers CARB certified. The headers will pass the sniff test no probs, now it's only the rest of the tests that it must pass to get the CARB EO#. I will keep everyone posted as I get more info.

Hi All,

Pictures and official announcements will be pending. I will probably post it up by either this friday or next monday.

Just want to make sure that all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed.

But a little excerpt to consider....

Borla (you check the price) + random tech cat assy = ?????
SYMS Racing + random tech cat back assy = ????

Now to answer a couple of questions:

No these units are not a copy of the SYMS headers... But, yes, SYMS was used as a baseline model... Pipe Lengths, Diameters, etc. We can not get metric tubes here in Canada for a reasonable price.

The new headers were actually CAD designed by a firm called CFP Engineering Services, CAD pictures will be included. They tested them using their own Predictive Flow Analysis, they took the Subaru Cam specs (overlap) into consideration, usable power, etc. etc.

These have been a labour of love since April 00. Quite a long time. The first 100 units (50 Local - 50 I-Club) will be sold directly from Brullen, CFP Engineering Services are not cheap, tooling alone designed by CFP as well was over $10,000.00 CDN.

After the 100 units are gone, all purchases must be made through resellers. Brullen is currently talking with your favourite reseller (s).

This is a joint venture between CFPEngineering and Brullen. Just for bringing these people together and collecting names, I get 1 unit for free. Not bad....

Questions, I'd be happy to answer them all.

Hey JoeT,

I saw these at the Ottawa Rally-X last weekend, they look grrrrrrrrrrrrr-eat! Can't wait to get my hands on one!

I'd still like to see the WHOLE header, as I only caught a glimpse thru the engine bay. You say you have a CAD drawing.....can you make a rendering for us? It would give us a good idea of what it looks like. If you can get a .DXF or .DWG or something, I can make a nice rendering in 3D Studio MAX for everyone! Lemme know!

Don't the headers have to be CARB approved to be STS legal? Or is that only out here in Cali?

$712 seems a little stiff. Borla $460-$480 + Random Cat $300. Equal Length makes it worth it I guess.

I remember the MRT Equal length headers and cat were not compatible with other cat-back systems. If I bought this header and cat will I be able to use my existing catback?

Appereantly, yes! It's supposed to bolt up to any exhaust. Well, any exhaust that was a bolt on. It should have the same mounting points to the midpipe. Thats what I hear............

Question

JoeT,

Will the headers fit with a skid plate? I cracked my Borla's while pumpkin hunting and want something else of a higher quality. Don't get me wrong the Borla's are OK, but they take from my low end, only a little but it's just enough to be a nuisance in my auto.

Keiho,

I spoke to Richard today, he should be calling the people on the list on Friday. If not him, another person from his office.

SPShultz.

I really don't know if a skid plate will fit or not. I guess it depends on who makes the skid plate. I've seen Gooseman's skid plate, if it were his, I would say yes. Cause his skidplates stops short of the exhaust manifold, and mainly protects the oil pan.

When I start posting pictures, I'll take a picture of an installed header from head on. Maybe you can tell us if a skid plate will fit.

Gooseman,

Yes, these will bolt up to the stock location. There will be a minor modification that would need to be made to the cat back exhaust. Brullen will be supplying adapters to properly mate the headers, cat converters to the stock location, so the original flange from the mid pipe must be removed somehow (hacksaw) and the adapter slipped over the mid pipe.

This was done to ensure compatability with the majority of cat back systems out there. 2 adapters will be coming with the headers, 1 slip fit with dual clamp to fit over the standard OEM exhaust, and 1 slip fit with dual clamp to fit over any 2.25" aftemarket exhaust.

All O2 sensor locations have been preserved.

Regarding CARB approval, Richard will be sending a production unit out to GTBGUY (Ion Performance) so that he can work with the dealer in California to get these CARB certified.

Once they are CARB approved, they will be legal for STS.

Enjoy...
