Default Best engine to turbo

This spring I may be getting a new car. (that's a BIG maybe) But I was just wondering what the general consensus was as to the best engine to turbo. (I.E. EJ20, 22, or 25). This would be a daily driver. I am thinking the EJ22 would be the best bet for all around practicality, reliability, and performance. If I am wrong about this please let me know. The original car would probably have to be under about $8,000, so I was thinking a 97 L with the 2.2 liter engine. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cool MINE!

Mine! J/K... It all matters what your looking for. A 2.5 will have all the torque and the 2.0 wont. It would be easier to get horsepower from the 2.0 because it is a more rev happy engine. If you are going to be doing more city stop-n-go driving then you would probably want the instant torque from the bigger engine. Just my thoughts on it.
