Question Legacy L Alloy wheels (painted)

I have a brochure for the 2001 Legacy, and according to the pictures, it looks like the 15" alloy-painted wheels are visually the same as the standard wheels. Is this correct? I really like the look of the GT wheels, but I don't want to spend that much extra for good wheels (plus a few other things I don't need).

According to the Kelly's Blue Book website, the alloy-painted wheels are standard on the GT and GT Limited, so does this mean the website is wrong, or is the picture in the brochure wrong? In other words, what do the alloy-painted wheels look like if I get that option on the Legacy L?

Thanks for the help,
Luke

I'm pretty sure they won't look like the GT wheels which are 16X6.5", not 15". Try the web site. You can probably buy used GT wheels for a reasonable price though.

Luke, I'm looking at p18 of the MY01 Legacy brochure; the wheels do look similar. The spoke openings of the top photo are trapezoidal, bottom has circular openings. Contrast those pictures with the GT 16" alloys on p7. IMO the '15" alloy wheel-painted' resembles to the wheel cover of the standard 15" steel wheel (this is what I've seen on most L models). The brochure's photos are correct; KBB may be using the wrong term ("alloy-painted wheel"). KBB is just displaying info from a database; it might have errors. I've found many differences in product descriptions on various sites. Also see Carpoint.

FWIW I was in the same boat; I found it hard to justify the cost of a GT over an L. Don't overlook the "sport-tuned" suspension; it, IMO, makes the GT worth $3K more than the L. Well, not really; here are the major GT extras: Limited Slip Differential, better suspension, alloys, moonroof (sedan-1, wagon-2), 6-way power driver's seat, fog lights, and remote keyless entry.

I didn't realize how much fun driving could be until we bought a GT and drove it (prior was a 91 L wagon 5MT FWD). And as this is my wife's car, imagine how I'd feel about it if I drove it daily!

Hope this helps; feel free to ask more questions.

Yep, the 15" alloy wheels don't look much different from the 15" steel wheels with the hup caps. The 16" wheel from the GT are much different visually, and other things.

Actually, I was in the market for a GT, but then found a wagon for $7,000 less, and am leaning to that (guess I got lucky). I figure for $7,000, I can do my own suspension - which I would have done to the GT anyway.

What the heck makes it a performance suspension anyway? I would love to know the specific differences besides the obvious wheels.

mx5, I've wondered the specifics myself. I've asked SoA what comprises a GT suspension; no response. What make/model wagon are you considering?
