I cant remember what drew me to this thread, clicked thru one thread link than the next. Read ALL of it, wowww.
Even though I am not in the market for a car, have never bought from this dealer, it was rather interesting reading how these guys seem to be crooks.

So check it out...I've been reading this for probably over 2 hours now while the christmas bird is cooking . Anyway I get to the post about "what is a Legacy "elite""? Then I look to my right, and remember my mother had handed this newspaper ad to me, today, which says "ALL NEW AND LARGER: 2010 SUBARU "ELITE"" ... and something about "do not buy a camry, without going to subarulegacyelite.com"

So there's a picture here of a legacy, so I suppose its a legacy. I say to mom "there's no such thing as a subaru elite, or a legacy elite". I verify with the website, even check subaru's up and coming models/packages, search "elite" on the subaru website produces 0 hits. Totally awesome, must be some dealer package.

Anyway I had done all that BEFLORE reading these posts. I honestly signed onto NASIOC just to check out what's going on and a "shady dealer?" post caught my eye.

Anyway the irony of it all, was that when I got to the "what is a legacy elite?" question, I looked over at this ad and noticed its from Bill Kolb. Totally awesome.

OH, it also says in green right next to the car: "UP TO 37MPG"

Ha it also says "not responsible for typos" in the fine print, also "offer expires 3 days after ad" which was placed today, christmas, closed, then tomorrow they're open then closed sunday, hahahaha.

Anyway, from my experience, I've never had 100percent stellar service/treatment from ANY dealership ANYWHERE. anyway, thanks for the read, merry christmas!

this dealership tried to void my warranty for my second gear failure .. i had no mods and at 55k miles [ before my warranty ended ] i had a exedy oem clutch installed .. they first tried to tell me we aint even looking at the car because the heavy duty after market clutch was the reason for 2nd gear breaking .. I called 3 other dealerships and they all replied .. we all accept oem exedy clutches because they are the same material as a genuine subaru oem clutch .. i then told this to BILL KOLB and they said they would get back to me ... after 2 weeks of waiting WITH NO CAR .. i tried calling countless times as i expected a rental car .. they finally call me back after i left 3 voicemails and told me that now the reason for the car was user operator ...

I was disgruntled and said call a SOA rep down and he came down a few days later .. he told me the gears were missing teeth , therefore it was user error ..

i went inside and i told them that is TOTAL bull**** .. i never mis shifted and i take great care of the car .. i then said when i bought this car i was told it had a 5 year 60,000 warranty for powertrain .. his response was " yes you are right, BUT subaru put out a memo that aggressive driving ( user error ) would not be covered under warranty and i would have to pay the total fee to fix 2nd gear

a few days bill kolb called me back and said listen we feel very bad so we plan to cover half the fee .. i was still angry but said, hey what ever i will save half the amount of $ what ever it is , even though i felt i was entitled to a full fix because my warranty does state that correct?

I asked how much is the full total cost of this and the assistant manager stated 1400-1800 $ ... i said ok thats the full amount, i only have to spend max 900 $ .. not bad ..

When i go to pick up my car there is a bill for 1500 $ .. i said hey i think you forgot to split this half remember? he said o yes we did split it in half .. the total amount of $ to fix this 2nd gear was around 3000 $ .. I said dont even try that bull**** on me .. you specifically said the TOTAL amount for a job like this was 1400-1800 not on my half !

I said since you lied to me .. you either hand me my keys and i dont take you to court or i pay the bill and then sue your asses in court along with SOA .. he said im sorry but you will need to pay the 1500 $ .. and i said ok ill cya in court

I wound up winning the court case because the judge said when he bought the car you told him it was a 5 yr/ 60k powertrain .. it not his fault that 2 years later you put out this memo about transmission abuse by the user operator ..

I won back my 1500 $ and everytime i pass bill kolb subaru .. i beep my horn and stick my finger out the window !!

LOVE hearing outcomes like this. I thought (former) Pontiac dealers were bad, but Subaru dealerships don't sound like they are much better.

I'm glad I read this. I'm in the market for a new WRX and was considering taking a trip over the bridge, but scratch that!

When I went to Bill "cold" Subaru they made me feel like I owed them something for their time. It was like I was asking too much of them for some info on a $37k car. F*** those saps.

Its a shame I wish there was a dealership that would have meets and give suby heads a place to be excited to go to. My wife said she would never get a subaru again because of kolb.

Just stumbled upon this thread, and all I have to say is WOW!! If I had read this thread prior to purchasing my Subaru, the Kolb Dealership would NEVER have been a consideration. However, I did. Overall my experience was ok, like any other dealership / salesperson they try to upsell you on everything, but that is to be expected, paperwork was done in a timely fashion, etc....

Upon returning to the dealership for service, I found the staff to be friendly and courteous, with the EXCEPTION of "Greg". Greg is unfriendly, unprofessional, unpleasant, argumentative, condescending and generally miserable. Whenever I walk in for service and find Greg working behind the service counter, I cringe, and run through a mental rolodex of other local dealers, where I could go and avoid him. The other members of the counter staff are the polar opposite of Greg and it is a testament to their professional and friendly demeanor that I continue to patronize the service department, however one more incident with Greg, and I am gone!

With regard to the reports of people buying used cars from Kolb, but not getting remotes or extra keys, that is exactly what happened to my friend when she purchased a car. Of course the dealership offered to provide replacements - at significant cost to my friend.

Have not bought from Kolb Jr. but ive been there while i was looking for a car. I went to the dealership and it was relatively busy and i had to wait about half an hour for a salesman to be free. I ve looked through a few of the cars and I was very disappointed about the quality of the used cars that they have there. One specific was an FXT. First of all it was very dirty inside. There was dirt, dust the whole 10 yards. Second almost everything inside the car was broken. The air vents, the glovebox, the center console. The seats were also dirty and had stains. After my test drive the salesman did tell me that the car was inspected everywhere but there were obviously defects (i wont go into the details) with the car. If youre going for a used car, avoid this dealer

Another terrible experience...

The car I bought there seemed to have been stripped:

-No remote (even though it was advertised as 'keyless entry') so I too fell for the $91 remote scam;
-no key for the lug locks;
-no owner's manual;
-no manual for the navigation (my salesman wanted to charge me $hipping to send it out to me!);
-the car came out of the shop 'prepped' with dirty, oily hand prints all over the interior.

And to top it off, after paying the $91 remote scam, my remote opened other cars on their lot (including mine)!

The vehicle was listed as being in 'excellent condition' but had scratches, dents, dings and engine problems.

And to add insult to injury, they were not willing to budge at all on the price.

Oh, and the gas tank was completely empty on delivery...

I just purchased a car there a week ago. I'm going to call them on Monday because I am having problems with my power steering and clutch pedal is real tough. Let's see how it goes. Other than that, I didn't have that bad of an experience with them.

Just stay on top of their asses, and call them the day they say they're supposed to call you. Don't wait around for callbacks, even when they promise.

I've been told, "I'll call you first thing on _ _ _ day" about 12 times, and had to call them EVERYTIME. That applies to sales, service and administrative people.

Well if you're from service, they are not doing so well in my book either. They allowed a customer drive their car in and out of the work area and this customer backed into my WRX. How professional. Thank goodness I was observing from the customer waiting area and witnessed the incident because the service manager tried to lie and say it wasn't the customer. Then it took 3 weeks for me to get my vehicle returned because they didn't do a good job replacing the bumber they damaged. Bill Kolb is terrible and they handle their customers as if our money doesn't matter. I spread the word to everyone I know about this crappy place.

Hey everyone...DON'T BUY FROM THIS PLACE (Bill Kolb).
I just read that a dealership in Poughkeepsie won the Loyalty Program Award 2 years in a row. It's the Mid-Hudson Subaru on Route 9--Wappingers Falls. It may be worth the ride. I will be making my next major maintenance service up there even though it's a little distance from the Bronx.

I don't know what they're looking at in their "122+ Subaru inspections"...because it's obviously not engine oil, wiper blades or big, greasy hand prints on the door.

Default so, where would you go?

if you live in the NY/NJ metro area, where would you get your subie serviced? I live in Nanuet, and agree the BKJ is not the best place to choose. Looking for recommendations... Liberty, Ramsey?
