Question 14" rims fit a 97 GT?

Anyone know if 14" rims clear the brakes on a 1997 Legacy GT? Tried searching the forum but it had a problem with 14" as a search term.

15" won't fit? Are you kidding? I am *almost* positive that several local guys have 15" rims for the winter. There is easily more than an inch of clearance on the 16" stock rims, from an eyeball measurement anyway. I suppose I'll have to roadtrip and find out. I will let you all know unless someone knows for sure (by trial fitting).

OE Subaru 15" steel wheels as well as older style 15" GT alloy wheels will fit the '97GT. 14"'s definately won't (unless you degrade your 2 pot front calipers to single pot calipers)

i'm basing what i said on personal experience. have a 95 ls that had the stock 15" 5-spoke alloy wheels with the smaller single-pot front brakes/rotors. i upgraded to my00/01 outback brakes in the front, which are the same as the gt, and my 15" wheels would not mount over the calipers, which resulted me in getting 16" gt wheels.

perhaps it was my style of 15" factory wheel that would not work...?

Benjamin Tang - You're correct b/c you've upgraded to '00/'01 Outback brakes, which are equal to the '02 WRX brakes as well. 15's won't fit over those, as they are larger than the '96-up GT brakes.

The Outbacks starting in 2000 uses larger front brakes b/c it's heavier.

They tell you that so you won't feel left out. Just keep pretending they are the same and you'll feel better!

Benjamin Tang - Calipers are the same, the rotor sizes aren't. All the 2 pot Subaru Calipers used in North America are the same. Those calipers are used on '98-up RS, WRX, Outback, GT etc. Only the size of the rotors differ. Your original L rotors < original GT/RS/Forrester rotors < '00-up Outback and the new WRX.

Since you did a whole conversion, you got the mounting brakets from the '00-up Outback, which allows you to use the larger rotor.

Subaru 15" Outback wheels fit an RS which I believe has the same brakes as an Outback or GT (pre-00) anyway. I sold my '97 Outback alloys to an RS guy who wanted them for rallying/rallycross so I know they fit...
