Engine bay wash, alternator gone bad
I forgot the map light ON three days ago. Of course, it drained my battery. While I hooked the battery charger to the battery I figured it was time for a little engine wash.
As usual, I used Simple Green and then hosed it off. The only thing, since the battery was still charging, I didn't start the car to dry it off like I usually do...
This morning, I was out to go windsurfing when I noticed the dash indicating me with the ((!)) light ON with the battery symbol ON. I checked on my Turbo timer and it showed only 11.60 volts.
I got home and checked at the alternator bolt and there too, I only get 11.60 Volts, thus no charging there.
I was wondering if I could have killed my alternator by simply hosing it and letting it drip dry (as opposed to starting the car)...
Is it time to change the alternator or my problem could lie elsewhere ?
