Default Just bought an STI!

Just bought an '06 STI yesterday, and I must say... damn I shoulda joined you guys earlier. I must also mention that I am probably the least informed/dumbest member on this forum, so please go easy on me : )

Anyhow, Im planning to add the folowing within the next few days:

SS Brake Lines (know of the best/most cost-effective brand?)
Brake Fluid (Blue something...)
Brake Pads (brand?)
Turbo Timer (Blitz DTT)
Tint (%?)
Anything else thats basic/essential to an untouched STI?

Needless to say, I plan to add more goodies as time and mileage progress. However, for now, I'll just stick with these few minor mods first.
So my question is, being new to Subaru (actually... being new to non-truck vehicles) what are the best and/or the most cost-efficient brands, and are these considered to be sound investments, or are some of them just a waste of money?

Thanks in advance,

Kiro

P.S. sorry for the long post... I'll try to tone it down in the future : )

The turbo timer is not essential on a Subaru with the way our cooling system is designed.

Are you planning on tracking the car immediately? You shouldn't need to upgrade the brakes right away unless you are taking it to a road track.

Also, welcome and enjoy that car! Take some time to learn how to drive it stock before you modify.

I agree. Sti's are so much car right off of the showroom floor you should just enjoy it for awhile before modding. Also, if you are coming from only previously driving trucks, it will be a HUGE difference!!!

Enjoy im jealous!!

right on man...welcome to the club! It's always a thrilling experience. Listen to everyone though, and get to know the power you've got now before modding. Hell, I went just about a year before my first mod. Have fun, and be safe.

I have to agree with everyone, and recommend against throwing mods on the car right off the bat. It's best to get used to the car and then start adding to it based on what it feels like it needs. (Unless you're building a show car. )

That said, SS brake lines, pads and fluid are always a good bet IMHO.

Thanks for all the replies guys You've convinced me to hold off on any powr mods for a while, but I'm still kinda leaning towards the brake upgrade. I live ~11000 ft. above sea level and commute to a city much lower in elevation. The only freeway to get down has a fairly steep downgrade (I-15 S - Cajon Pass), so I will most likely make good use of the brake upgrade.

btw, does anyone know how much $ this might run for?

Thanks,

Kiro

SS brake lines ~$90

I don't know about pads or fluid though. I got my fluid for $6, but it was crappy no-name brand. (Still did the trick at my track day, though. ) I'm pretty sure pads will be less than $150 for all four corners, for decent street pads. More experienced members may chime in with better info.

Just a quick sidenote about the brakes, Ferdie at South Coast Performance told me that the suby warrenty should cover your brake pads for up to 30,000 miles, so if you're not tracking your car and you wanna save alittle cash flow, keep the subie brakes till 30,000 come up at least, but, it's your car, your money, do what cha want. And welcome, you'll meet alotta good peeps here, you're also meet alot of a$$es. So read up before you listen to anyone.
