I have a GT with increased displacement. Would i be better off with Borla header for the GT's original 2.5 liter engine, or would i be better off having Paeco do what they do?

How much displacement do you have? What kind of mods do you have? Not many people around here are very familiar with the folks at Paeco, but I'm seriously considering their cams in the near future (fingers crossed).
What does Paeco offer? -S |

Paeco does pretty much everything. http://www.paeco.com/home.html
right now i am just pricing out what everything will cost, but i am planning on cam shafts, con rods, pistons, flywheel, pulleys, crankshaft, headers, exhaust, and home made intake; depending on the suipply of money i may have to wait on the pulleys and flywheel for another time. Displacment will be increased by the new crank and oversized pistons. |

oh yeah, it would increase displacement any where between .2-.4 liters, not sure the exact number, i just know it is that range

romoranger - I take it you're trying to go the N/A route. I would strongly suggest against further boring and stroking the engine, as the engine in stock form unless prep'd properly doesn't like high revs much. You will also need to look into an aftermarket engine management unit to allow you to bump up revs to make power (N/A style).
I've personally used the Borla headers before and they are absolute junk in comparison to others such as the Brullen or SYMS equal length headers. What year is your Legacy? If you have a DOHC, you'll already be able to rev 250rpms higher than the SOHC's. I would highly suggest contacting the guys @ Cobb Tuning for the heads and cams. |

There has been much discussion around my area about using a TEC-I to raise the rev limiter to 7500 and getting Paeco to makes custom cams that will provide max power from 6000-7500 and eliminate the possibility of valve float. Cobb has deemed our engines perfectly safe up to 8000 rpm before you would need to do custom work to flow more air and keep everything balanced.
I will be helping install a set of the Brullen Headers and a Brullen Cat Back this weekend. I will let you know what I think of the build qaulity, performance, and sound when I return. Brad |

I am actually buying one within in the next 2-3 weeks, but i am not going fo the GT anymore due to money restraints. Right now, i am looking at a 95 Legacy L.
My only big thing with the increase in displacement was that i was not sure if i would be able to find a turbo to put on it if i had ever wanted one in the future. I also would like to keep all mods at this time safely under 3.5k. i will take a look at the brullen and syms ones. any suggestions or comments, keep posting, or email me. I appreciate your help so much. |

I have heard excellent things about Paeco. They seem to be a well-regarded company.

alright, finally figured out what i will do, i just need some help from you guys with information. I am repacing some internals (pistons, piston rings, con rods, cam shafts, head work), and then i would like to configure a sequential twin turbo system on my soon to be a 95 legacy L. I know i need a new exhaust system, and saw the group buy on that 2.5" or 3" cat back, but i am not sure where to get exhaust headers for this type of application. I know i need turbos, too. I think if i could possibly get a VF30 as the larger turbo for the high range, but i am not sure about the smaller one. I thought maybe the stock turbo on a saab or the stock from the wrx. I also know i will need the mainshaft from the tranny of a turbo legacy. I know i will need a down pipe, but i do not know where to get one. I think i will also need a new ecu and/or a turbo timer. If any one can give me any information about any of the above things i have said, could possibly elaborate on anything or give suggestions and/or comments, i would appreciate it. thanks

romoranger - It would be a lot simpler to do a bolt-on turbo-kit. The sequential set-up you mentioned won't be of very much use. To start off with, your car w/ a 2.2L and 9.7:1 compression is already better than the JDM spec 2.0L 8:1 compression.
Running a single turbo will be more economical as well it will satisify your hunger for power. If you go this route, just get your stock exhaust manifold extrude honed as well as ceramic coated. If you're not in too much of a hurry to get it, iON Performance will be coming out with a kit made especially for our Legacys. |

if i lowered the compression and had the sequential twin turbo setup, would that generate more hp and torque than the standard bolt on coming from ion performance?

romoranger - a sequential turbo system is not very useful in the fact that you will have higher than 8:1 compression, and you will still have 2.2L of displacement.
For example. If you ran 5-7psi on the iON turbo-kit with stock CR on the 2.2L block, you will make more power than going down to 8:1CR and running a sequential system. Going down to a CR of 8:1 will necessitate ~14.7psi boost to make the same power. As well, going to 8:1 CR will decrease thermal efficiency. Not to mention you will have extra bulk of a sequential system. This is the same reason why Supra's & RX-7's go from a sequential turbo to a single big turbo. |

ok, if the compression was increased, say if i went for the stage 2 or 3 engine paeco offers whiich has a compression 11:1 for stage 2 and 12:1 for stage 3, would the ion turbo kit still be ok to use with the engine; or should i have them keep the compression yet do do everytying else.. sorry to ask you all these questions, but i want to make sure i am going to do this right and get what i can out of the engine, and you really know our stuff.

i found the tread that has your companies turbo kit in it. that sounds great. my only question is if the conrods and pistons of a car that has over 100k on it can handle it.

romoranger - I would not increase compression any futher than the stock 9.7:1 ratio, as the higher the compression + boost, you will require to be running on race gas all the time.
The 5-7psi is ment to be ran on 91+ octane fuel. If you go for the full kit, you have the option of running higher boost, as there'll be a map programmed for the Unichip specific for this. If you're doing an engine rebuild. To make the most use of the car before going turbo, leave the stock CR, or if you want, bring it down to 9.5:1 just for an extra margin of safety. Doing rods, pistons and rings in the forged flavor is definately beneficial to run big power. The kit will be annouced once it's fully done testing etc. |
