No. The post 97 WRX intercoolers are too deep to fit between the throttlebody and firewall. there was a redisign of the intake manifold that pushed the throttle body forward, so they could fit a bigger intercooler on top of the engine.

They are both GC8 cars with the exact same engine. I see no reason why it wouldn;t fit. Do you have a MY01 WRX intercooler or are you ordering it from europe/Japan?

EDIT: NM, I believe that the MY01 WRX everywhere else in the world is like our MY02 and not like the North America MY01

I'll confirm it.

The only WRX intercoolers that fit the MY98-01 RS are the MY93-MY96 IC's. They are the the IC's that sit at a funny angle relative to the throttle body. The IC's after that year are larger to take up the extra space found by the redesign of the intake manifold. The EJ25 utilizes the old style manifold.

Here is what you are looking for (and they are getting very rare):

The 01 WRX and RS are the same chassis, but one is an EJ20, and the other is an EJ25, different intake manifolds and dimensions, hence why they wont work.

I disagree.....

A memeber of the Montreal Subaru Club, Mike Moffa (also his username here) has an STi intercooler on his EJ25....its a MY98 (the car, not the IC), if that makes a diff. I have NO idea what ver or what year the IC is from, but it doesnt sit an angle like the black one in the pic. Hmmmmmm......

I'll try to find a pic..its silver, with pink STi painted on it....very similar to a MY02 WRX one......

Interesting, I think we need to ask him some questions.

Paul Eklund (Primitive Racing) had to beat on his firewall to get his WRX IC to fit.

Well checking MRT's Site, the replacement IC's they sell are 280 mm but i'm not sure if that is including the endtanks or not, cause we do have 280mm to work with, just don't expect that strutbar to fit. So I just went with a MY95 IC from Australia, hopefully will have it in a few weeks, and as stimpy said they are getting very very rare.

try mrt rally's site, they don't have any right now though. that's were i'm getting mine from, the classifieds section. Other than that just go start calling dismantlers in the UK and Aust. you should be able to find something. Next possibility, look for an intercooler off another type of car that with some hose, pipe, and a little imagination can be made into a FMIC.

If you need places to get connectors, hose, and bent pipe I know from experience where to go.

-Paul

This week the S/C, next month the TURBO (I hope)
