John,

Peter Hill will be organising it this year, but he hasn't got this year's website up and running (yet).

What I do know is that its set for the weekend of September 23-24 (its a night rally) and that they have decided to use the roads up by Rocky Mountain House this year.

The very first Loop Rally took place in 1956 and has been run off/on over the years by various organisers but I believe Peter has run it the most.

As soon as they release the details I'll have a post on the forums!

Thanks, Kurt. Would it be too dangerous to attempt this rally without a light-bar?

Hey, my 555 post and it's about rallying!

You'll have no problems running the rally safely with just stock lights etc because you'll just have to slow down and take a few penalties if/when you start to overdrive your lights

Sometimes conditions are so bad that you can't even use the lights. At last year's Loop the rain made it impossible to use the lights, and when the rain did stop there was simply too much mud caked onto the lights for them to be effective. Mind you we couldn't see out of any window other than the front windshield due to the mud.

At the GNU the problem was dust, however on the last regularity which was a narrow tree-lined rough-as-hell dirt road with ruts that caused us to bottom out the skid plate in the snow every 50 feet or so... the dust wasn't a factor and the lightbar allowed us to keep the required speed and we even managed to beat Peter to a couple of checkpoints

So no, not dangerous, just a little bit more of a challenge trying to stayon time

Just keeping this thread updated as there have been a few posts on the CSCC forums via:

http://cscc.speedracer.ca/forums/ind...ic,3584.0.html

And some quotes for the lazy ppl.

Quote:
We'll be basing the event in Rocky Mountain House, and it will run overnight on 23/24th Sept.
I'm going to try to avoid the Gnu roads, as we've used them quite a lot recently, so we'll head for the North side of town. Should be able to put together 350 to 400 Km of regularity sections and hopefully not too much transit.
This is a TSD, so we won't be travelling at warp speed, but some auxiluary lights would not do any harm. (I would imagine Rallysport.ca could help anyone who doesn't have any

Peter

That's right - start just before sunset, make sure the hardest navigational decisions are timed for around 3 am, and finish with an East bound transit just after dawn..............

Peter
Mmm mmm...

Kris has put out a call for checkpointers,

Its a great opportunity to get involved and see what it takes to challenge a night time TSD rally:

Hey everyone. The Loop rally is coming up on 23/24th Sept and we need people to help out. First i'll let you know it's an all night TSD and it's based out of Rocky Mountain House AB. We need some crews of checkpointers and a sweep vehicle. If you are at all interested send me a pm or email istarallysport(AT)gmail.com and let me know what you can do.

Thanks

I'm guessing the start/finish will be at the Best Western in Rocky Mountain House.
