SSR Competition Rims

I was reading through some of the forums at sccaforums.com and came across <a href=http://www.sccaforums.com/ubb/Forum22/HTML/000121.html>this post:</a>

I have been frustrated at the lack of light autocross/track rims with the proper "Subaru offset" for my RS. The RS has very tight clearances in the rear and 45mm offset rims with stock or wider tires and lower springs often conflict with even rolled fenders (been there - done that).
The TireRack is trying to determine if there is enough interest to warrant a special run of SSR Competition rims, 11.5 lbs, 16 X 7, 50mm offset, in anthracite, $299 each. These would be SCCA autocross legal for the Subaru RS in either stock or STS/STR and would save about 5.3 lbs per wheel (a lot!).

They need a commitment of ten sets to consider making a special run of these wheels. I'm going to commit to two sets, one STS set and one STR set (there goes Christmas). If you are interested, would you please e-mail luke@tirerack.com with a cc: to me at kstolz@selway.umt.edu.

I'm curious what you're basing that statement on, Bill. I've heard nothing but good things about the SSR Comps, and the rest of SSR's line for that matter. A friend of mine has the Comps on his S4, which sees auto-x and open track duty, and is daily-driven on the crappy roads of New England, and he hasn't had any problems.

Please correct me if I am wrong, I believe that stock RS wheels has offset larger than 50mm, if there is going to be a special run, why not make it the same spec. as the oem wheels (16x7). Also, Legacy (or at least pre 2000) needs higher offset than RS, right? Anything >50mm is more Legacy friendly. If I have money for new wheels, I want to get it right and don't want to spend money to roll the fender.
