Default Window Tint

Does anyplace in or around Vancouver sell and install ceramic window tint? Or, can you recommend someplaces you've had good experiences with?

Also, the brand of window tint you installed would be helpful to me. One of the brands I would like to consider is V-Cool--for which i'm having difficulty finding retailers/installers.

Thank you.

Try CarTunes. I know the manager of the Coquitlam store, and he knows a guy that does ceramic tint.

I got my Huper Optik ceramic tint done in Richmond @ SmartFilms on Minoru.

http://smartfilms.ca/automotive01.html

The only problem is that I lost my AM reception after that .

But like I said, I don't know why I lost my AM reception after they installed the tint. That was the reason why I went with ceramic tint in the first place--to avoid that problem .

When I went back, they had no idea why it was like that and they said they would check into it, but I never heard back from them. Now that I have more time, I'll probably go back in to see them--I have to get them to do some touch-up anyway.

My understanding is that there are three types of tint: dye-based, metallic, and ceramic.

Dye-based ones aren't supposed to affect antennas or your radar detector, but they can fade (turn purple) over time.

Metallic tint doesn't fade but it is known to affect antenna and radar signals, i.e. if your radar detector goes through metallic tint it's range is reduced.

Ceramic tint is not supposed to fade or affect radio signals or radar.

what could one expect to pay to get a light all-around ceramic tint from any of the places mentioned in this thread? if there are a few people considering getting tints, we could get some sort of deal i'm sure if we all went together.

i heard a rumor last year that they are allowing up to 50% tint on the fronts now because so many stock cars already come with it. i never found out if that was true though...

i think it is only okay if the car's window comes with tinted class
eg: Class with color like Merzedes.......

but for sure illegal with after market tinted fronts........

quote from RS - (AS Grade is the tint that comes on MOST cars from the factory)

"How much tint can I put on the windows of my car?

This depends on how you are doing the tinting. If you are replacing the glass with glass that has the tint incorporated in it, as long as the glass is marked with the proper AS grade for the position it is installed in, this is correct. If you are applying something to the window, you are allowed to tint the top 10 cm of the windshield, any side window where the whole window is behind the driver's shoulders, and the rear window if you have outside mirrors on each side of the vehicle. Reference 7.05(8)&(9)Motor Vehicle Act Regulations."

Yes it is, and RCMP love pulling over and ticketing for it. They got me in the middle of a TSD rally...660 penalty points and a fine.

how dark were your front and back tint?

i'm hoping 60 front and 35-40 back will make the front not noticably tinted... the reason i want to tint the front is purely for heat reduction... which is why i really want v-cool 75 for the front (which i can't find)..

I just PM you. I have also e-mailed Smartfilms for a price quote and an appointment to meet with them. Hopefully they can give us a discount. 4 people interested so far (i think).

yeah, i think that's what most of us are waiting for. the OP should make a list at the top with everyone interested in getting in on a group buy for tint. It'll be more organized, not to mention we'll have a better idea of how much to pay.

I need tint too but I am over on the island and there is no group buys on ferry fare.. I could walk-on to save $$ but tinting the car is hard when it's not at the tint shop..

Well, depending on cost...I might be interested in a group buy for my rear door windows, and rear glass. Not too dark though
