I have an '04 WRX wagon and it burned through the stock tires (with two rotations and a four wheel alignment) at 18k miles. Not to worry, I had already purchased a set of used Rota wheels and set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 from Tire Rack that were sitting in my living room mounted and balanced at the time. I put them on and got another four wheel alignment.
Now I have 25k miles and flat Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 with steel belts showing with all the wear in just the same place as the stock tire which had failed. The Kumho tires that were on the Rota wheels when I got them had the same wear patern.
I know there is a problem with the car that caused the steel belts to be exposed after only 7000 miles and the stock tires to wear through after so few miles with rotations.
The wear is on both rear tires near the middle of the car. Full tread on the outside of the tires, steel or holes on the inside.
How do I get this adjusted so this abnormal wear will stop?
