Default Makinen and Subaru matchup-opinions?

I am soliciting opinions from those who know more about rally than me. What you you think specifically about the Makinen/Subaru matchup, both in terms of how the car and driver suit each other, and also how the driver might get along with team management etc.?

I think it'll be interesting to see how well the strong-willed management at Prodrive/SWRT get along with the strong-willed driver. Will the weight of Tommi's four championships undermine the management's authority? It's gonna be interesting...

Edit: About the car, I think Tommi will have no problem adapting to the Subaru. As far as physical dimensions go, the Evo and WRX have always been pretty close. It might be more interesting to see if Richard has teething pains moving down to the tiny 206...

I was thinking more of driving style than how he would fit in the car.

Anyone else want to weigh in?

Rob, I was talking about subconcious prediction of the physical extents of the car. For Tommi, the right corner of the front bumper will be in about the same place when he slides it next to a bank. For Richard, it'll be a little different.

I don't think Tommi will have many problems getting accustomed to the Subaru. I wonder if he'll be using the paddle shifters or if he'll go with a *standard* sequential shifter. Richard had the fun of developing a new version of the Impreza while tommi will have to sort it out for his driving style/preferences. Let's hope he can bring Subaru more wins in 2002.

As for his personal interaction with the team, I'm sure he'll get on fine with the Prodrive boys.

Richard will probably equate driving the Pug 206 to driving a go kart. That's how Carlos Sainz described the change from the Corolla WRC to the Focus. He'll be able to point and shoot the car a bit more. We'll see how it holds up. IMO, the Pug doesn't seem that strong.

Would it be possible to have both Tommi and Richard, racing for Subaru or is Richard really going to Peugeot.
They drove together for Mistsu back in 97.

No, RB is really gone.

As for Tommi, he'll get on just fine I would imagine. I still think it's going to be weird as hell seeing him in a blue uniform, but the image is growing on me more and more

The new Impreza WRC is still rather new and I'm sure there is more then enough development still to be done with the car( I believe the next new "version" comes next spring), so maybe Tommi and the car could kind of develope together, as was the case with Colin and the Impreza from way back.

Interesting point about exterior dimensions of the car Ross, I hadn't thought about that...

Personally, I think they will do really well after about 3 rallies, which I allocate for him to get fully acoustomed to the car, exterior dimensions and all....
