Post Whats the largest sway bar that will fit a 99 Legacy GT?

I want upgrade my sway bar on the Legacy. It currently an 18mm. I want to stiffen the rear up to get a little bit more of a steer happy ride without messing with allignment and camber settings.

What is the largest bar that will fit a 99 Legacy GT? Brand? Price? Where to buy?

Thanks
Brad

Thanks SubieGal. I like the Cobb 19mm-21mm adjustable sway bar. I want to ge the Whiteline End Link Mounts also.

I have a question about something. I am looking at the Cusco Rear Bar. It says it stiffens rear crossmembers. What does this mean and will it help the Legacy to want to overstear a little?

Thanks
Brad

Wink

it may help a wee bit...

but remember this... the wider base of the GT makes it harder to oversteer... harder to get it to turn in.. it wants to plow...

your almost better off w/NO sway bar if that's what you want1 <<laff>>

hehehehe

Subie Gal; don't you mean no front sway bar!! If you removed the rear you'd plow all day.

I've had great luck with SPO's rear sway bar kit. I got a pre-production kit that's just a 20mm. and it works great!! I believe it'sa adjustable up to either 22 or 24mm tho. This kit comes with everything too; bar, bushings, HD links and mounting system.

Now my car with all it's mods handles beautifully. With my alignment settings H&R/adjustable KONI setup. Balanced drifts on the track are performed easily/wonderfully.

Warning: Remember you muct be able to control the car in a drift/emergency situation!!

Drift control I'm fine with. I have a little experience with a rear wheel drive car in the rain and on a wet circle track. My worry is the stupid understeer. If I get into an emergency situation I'd rather be able to make an evasive move and work into a comfortable drift and hope to get out of the way rather than an uncorrectable understeer where I'm just plowing away. So the Spo kit came with links. Cool. I'll check that out. Yousaid it was preproduction? Are they in production now that I could buy it?

Thanks
Brad

here is a related question:

I am picking up a used 1999 Legacy GT sedan this week (can't find a 5MT wagon within 100 miles ). In the garage is the stock 18mm bar off my OB, which I replaced with a whiteline 18-22. No, I am not going to remove that- the OB is so sweetly set up right now, and my wife likes it a little tail happy.

SOOO- shall I put that stock 18mm bar on the GT (which comes with what, 15mm?) or spring for another whiteline? I won't be doing any suspension mods other than a front tower brace for a while.

Do it!! It's cheap and easy. Yes the stock bar is only 15mm on the GT. If you'd actually want/need more for the rear you can simply sell the 18mm for an easy ~$60.

What could it take, 15min to install to see if it's benifical or not...

Actually, the stock GT bar is 16mm - it's a good replacement for an L or LS. I did exactly what you're contemplating - put the whiteline adjustable on the OB, put its 18mm on the GT, sold the GT's 16mm to an LS owner for about $35. The GT handles much better (but does tramline more) and isn't at all squirrely in the rain.

I'd be willing to buy someone's used rear swaybar. My '98 L wagon could always use it. Although I find the turn-in is actually *better* (perhaps because of the manual tranny & different torque split?) than that of my '97 GT Sedan.

Shipping it would be a waste of money though...
