Talking 95,000mi check in. The white 2.5Oontz mobile is holding oil again!!

It was much the same scene as last time. My car, Ted's garage...

This time I managed to get the motor out in 2 hours by myself with only hand tools.

Ted helped me when it came time to hoist it up and out and when I re-did the plugs, valve cover gaskets, oil galley gaskets/etc...

I doused everything in brake parts cleaner, made sure that all mounting surfaces were clean on all rear-motor access panels. I used a high-temp copper RTV this time, gave it plenty of time to set up before starting the motor.

I washed everything down today, changed the oil and drove it through an under-body car wash. I laid down 50 miles, just enough to hit that 95,000mi mark and popped my head under the hood to do a smell check. Nothing interesting to smell other than hot metal and clean engine bay.

I'll be sure to update this for the next few thousand miles =)

Other things that were done:
- New o2 sensors (front and back).
- TWE Equal Length Headers.
- Total engine-out wipe-down of cross-member/steering rack/etc.
- New bolts to hold my flywheel to my pressure plate. Mine had been airguned on/off 4 times, and taken on and off myself another 2 or 3 times. I managed to snap the head off of one at 35ftlbs. They were certainly showing their age. I re-tapped the holes on the flywheel to fit new bolts.

Glad to hear you got the car to stop leaking oil. By the way the motor from my old Impreza is ruined. It turns out that is the reason the car was considered totaled, apparently some piece of metal went up into the block of the motor. I meant to tell you earlier, but I have been pretty busy trying to find a car.

Yeah, but that's w/o me driving it =) Let me drive it for 60k and see what happens =)

All joking aside, when we had the motor apart, it still looks brand new inside. I was quite amazed.

Dave:

I found out today: those clutch bolts are rated to 11.7 lb/ft. 35 was a bit excessive.

I guarantee I drive it harder than you do. I replace the clutch every 50k miles in that car. The integra has never worn out a clutch I broke the first 2. Keep in mind the RS gets autocrossed almost every weekend aside from its normal everyday abuse.

Mine as well looked new inside the cylinders.

Well, they are torqued to 25ftlbs now =)

...and I had an exhaust leak at the headers, so I re-torqued those with a breaker bar this morning =)

Since you intend to keep it, put it up for sale but ask a mint. Someone may or may not want it, you never know. But not a lot of sense in keeping it if you can get good money for it though

congrats on the fix.

Insurance, upkeep, and the fact it could be good money in your pocket...not to mention you have another example of the exact same car with an STi drivetrain. But ya, no reason to sell it

hey whatever floats your boat.

Yeah, when I saw you ahead of me on the off-ramp, I contemplated doing my normal 60mph flyby right turn there, but decided to stop behind you and see if you took notice.

It's much quicker to make that right onto 123, then the immediate next right and U-turn.

I also just got done fully degreasing the motor.

2 rounds of engine brite and it's about as clean as it's gonna get.

I'll tire foam the hoses/etc in the AM.

Last time I did that in traffic, it was RIGHT in front of a marker car (duh); was late for a meeting and pushed it. All I got was a warning but ...
