Default Car is it tune, car is out of tune...

So I have a 93 impreza that used to have an EJ18 N/A, and I swapped in an EJ20 turbo from a '97 JDM(version 5, I think). I left in the factory ECU (impossible to get the correct ECU), and am using an SAFC 2 to handle the fuel difference between the injectors and an MSD DIS-2 with built in timing retard to pull back timing when under boost. I've also installed a Walbro 255 fuel pump for some needed fuel pressure. I pretty much had the thing tuned the way I wanted, and then I changed out my spark plugs with pretty standard NGK platinums (.03 in gap I think). Now the car has a serious problem with hesitation. First of all it's incredibly difficult to start, and the air/fuel gauge (narrow band) reads constantly rich (at the top of the meter).

I think that, for whatever reason, the mix is way too rich all the time, but adjusting the SAFC doesn't seem to change it very much.
I'm trying to get some general info on what to expect when tuning the thing (injector size, ECU issues, MAF sensor issues, timing(!)).

Default Dumb luck solves my problem again!

Actually, I realized yesterday that the ignition coil was from the original engine (140K miles), so I switched it with the newer coil from the current engine and the car is working fine. I think that running the MSD DIS-2 into the older (probably smaller) coil simply wore it out. I should probably get an MSD coil as well. Thanks for the response!

.03 seems like a large gap mine are at .019

i prefer $.75 copper plugs to the fancy platunim ones

your car will never run right/ make the power its capiable of w/o real engine mangement

97 would be a ver.3/ver 4

I don't know.. the thing put down 239whp and 253 ft lbs (4000 rpm) with the factory turbo (td04) w/o knock. I can't complain.
