Default Legacy Strut Forum

I know we've touched on this before here and there, but I'd like a once-and-for-all exhaustive discussion on strut choices for the Legacy/GT. I just signed up for iON's Legacy RS/GTB spring GB, and of course now I need to think about struts. Obviously KYB AGX comes to mind, particularly because of my budding auto-x interest. STi V5 seem to be an option too, although there may be minor install issues. Complicating things is the fact that AGxs are $424, but Sugar is selling v5s for $295. Additionally, I wonder if an Impreza-tuned strut is the best idea for the excess weight of the Legacy. For the money I can't see getting GR2s over AGX. (Coil-overs were simply not an option, budgetarily). I don't think any of you have tried Koni or bilstein, correct?

So, particularly for those of you who track or auto-x your Legacy, what is the best move??

IMO, spend the extra money and get the AGX's. Yes I race my legacy, and use it as a daily driver. The adjustablity on them is great(I had them on my rx-7). They can go from knock your teeth out stiff to luxo-barge soft. I'm also on the GB from Ion, and I'm waiting a while to install the springs. I want to wait to get the agx's and do it in one shot. I'm in no rush as Auto-x season is thinning out. Later, Keith #69 dsp

lucien2 - with the JDM spring rates and not a massive drop like some Impreza springs, the AGX's will be a good match for someone who likes to "tinker" around with their set-up. The V5's are good as well (if you like to drop in and forget). The OE struts on the GT & RS are the exact same part number, so you shouldn't have a problem being the the Legacy is heavier (I've used the AGX before).

It's too bad KYB isn't hurring up to make the rear shocks for the '00-up Legacys. The front two struts are exactly the same as years past.
