Default Dubya's ej257 build

Blew 2.0 about two weeks ago spun bearing on cylinder #4

Thanks to Tristan from Fred Beans Subaru for hooking me up with a great deal+free shipping.

I will post progress of the build as I complete it through out this week.

Im thinking about going with a vf34 if the funds are available. stock cams once again if funds are available might go with helix rna 264 in 2.0 heads.

You need more bigger turbo, bigger than a 34 :P

what are you looking to do with it? do you want top end or responsiveness? i just got a TD06-20g.... seemed to be a happy compromise between the two.

responsiveness, and i dont want to have to downshift just pass someone. I do not want a power monster, i want a car that will surprize people. I want to use this on race track once in and while so it needs to be reliable.

i was thinking about the 16g but that seems like this project is already going over budget.

ill probably run the td04 for a while then upgrade later. it all depends on my cash flow in the next few weeks.

Anyway as of yesterday, i got the oil pump, water pump, and pulleys on the sti block. also i got the passenger head on it.

dont get cams... no point not worth the trouble unless your goin for top end power. just swap in some sti cams if u want it to breathe better

I was thinking cams mainly to get a broader power band. since im not going to be running a big turbo. Turbo would handle midrange torque, and allow top end to have a little something too with cams.

I want to flaten out that torque curve as much as possible.

Or do i have my theory jacked up?

I was going about 45 on the highway, down shift to 2nd to pass a car because my exit was coming up. sped up to about 55 shifted into 3rd (missed) pushed clutch in put it in 3rd clack clack clack. i was like what the hell?

I didnt even have a chance to go to any track events, i went to mazda summerfest and loved it (the miata is alot of fun). So i wanted to get into track racing for fun now that i will have some power.

However, i was in a car addicent last year where the throttle cable got pinched, and the car was leaking oil bouncing off of the rev limiter. i shut it off once i came to. Probably anywhere from 2-5 minutes passed by because i got out of he car trying to figure out what just happen. Less then a year after i get my car back the engine goes. only 25k on the 2.0

I got the passanger head on today. Those instructions for bolting and torqueing the head are wierd, but i followed them how they were written in the manual.

I think i need a new fly wheel.

you didnt spin a bearing, you stretched a rod bolt, be sure to upgrade the stock rod bolts to ARP hardware if you intend to rev.

Wooo hooo my good man, glad to see a Fred Beans product going to a good man! Your flywheel and pressure plate are on the way... its a shame we talked so late in the day (est time) that i could make an overnite wqrth it to us! Im really happy to see you document your progress along the way. I enjoy selling this stuff and watching it come alive -- very rewarding -- matt called to, we talke dabout his unfortunate dyno incident which we compared to losing a dog... lol. hope we can get him running without killing his pockett!

Well the engine is ready to go in. Waiting for the flywheel, and pressure plate to get here. Still waiting on my utec to arrive suppose to be here on friday but for what ever reason it is not being tracked at all by DHL.

I'm working with the vendor and the person who sold it to me to see what is going on. I hope it will get here by tuesday night. So i can fire up the engine.

I striped the thread for the coolant tube on top of the block. had to tap with with a bigger side and put a stud in there instead. That worked well. Im heading out tomorrow to buy all the oil and coolant i need.

Im looking into firing her up on wendesday. Wish me luck guys.

Well, i finished it up tonight car runs. Didnt get my utec installed. i have a misfire on #4. will replace the spark plugs (yea im an idoit should have done it while the block was out didnt think about it). Put about 40 miles on the new engine already. You can feel the torque comming on at about 2k is really nice.

I think i hear knock from the right side cams, I do not hear it on the driver side. I would hate to have to pull this thing again. im giong to drain the oil tomorrow to make sure all is good and we have no metal shavings. i think its worth it.
